5 year service bits and bobs

Featured Replies

What sort of things are advisable on a VRS major annual service, especially at the 5th year. Last year I only had the usual 10k mile oil change and inspection service plus cambelt/pump. Discs and pads are all done on all 4 corners within the last year.

Last air filter change was in 2008, same for brake fluid so by rights they should've been done last year so I'm late on those. Hasn't had a pollen filter change. Is a fuel filter change worth doing? Also I keep hearing about cleaning the MAF? Is that advisable and an easy task? Also a warning light comes on intermittently due to modified EGR gasket, could that need cleaning out to keep the ECU happy? Anything else that I should get inspected / changed at 5 years?

If your Cambelt has not been changed in the last 4-5 years, then changing it is a must. It is advisable to do the water pump at the same time. I would also change the auxiliary/ribed V/fan belt if it has not been done.

It is advisable to change Brake fluid every 2 years as it absorbs water. If all the filters have not been changed for 3-4 years, then you might as well do them now.

Is do the gearbox oil too. That's what I plan on doing to mine soon. It's a 05 the.
