Octavia FL Badging

Featured Replies

Noticed this morning that the "TSi" badge on my FL Octavia has a chrome "TS" and a red "i"

On the pre FL models you could tell the engine by the colour of the "i" with the 2.0 TDi and 2.0 FSi both having a red "i" and the 1.9TDi and 1.6FSi having black.

Is it the same on the FL and if so how do you distinguish between the 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8?

i have a 10 plate fl octy 2.0tdi, it has the red i as you've said, the 1.6tdi and 1.9tdi at work all come with silver tdi badging

1.4 TSI's are just silver, 1.8 TSI's have a red "i". No idea about 1.2's.

In a related question, can you tell if a FL vRS is Petrol or Diesel? Followed one on the M25/M26 last night and looked like there was a badge above the vRS but couldn't be sure.

Looks like this:

- 1.2: no TSI badge

- 1.4: TSI

- 1.8: TSI

PreFL 1.8 was badged TSI. Now go figure... :dull:

Old characterisation looks to be in line with the VW's who do 122 1.4 TSI and 160 1.4 TSI.

Hmmm....

So if I debadge my 1.8 TSi it will become a 1.2 ;)

I don't think you can, unless you see a puff of black smoke out of the exhaust! ;-)

Seriously though, I'm sure that if there is a way of telling the difference, s'one on here will know!

The sound of a tractor engine usually gives it away! :peek:

How very dare you :o

Golfs used to have TDI on 110 diesels, TDI on 130s and TDI on 150s.

The cr doesn't sound like a tractor whereas the old pd did and because both have dpf neither should blow black smoke.

No externally visible way to tell the difference but one way to tell is by looking at the rev counter.

Maybe a bit quieter , but no mistaking it is a diesel

We are now entering real anorak territory... :nerd:

...but don't they have different exhausts?

My last diesel (not a VRS though) had downturned tailpipes but my current 1.8 TSI has straight tailpipes that have a significantly bigger diameter than the diesel.

No, both vRS's have twin straight pipes with chrome tails. Maybe the diesel ones get dirtier, but I couldn't be sure.

Externally, there is no difference between them, which I rather like as VW don't do a diesel GTi and Seat add a TDi badge to the wing of the FR.

Mine had just the L&K badge and the Octavia badge and I removed all the L&K badges as they look a bid grandad but then I have the VRS tail fin on mine to further confuse.

The more red the badge is the hotter it is I recall.

It also was VWs thing that engines less than 125 hp had one tailpipe and over that had 2 and the diesels were downturned and petrols straight but there are straight diesels as my SEAT was.

Not really I've just owned both!
