Noise from rear - internal?

Featured Replies

I seem to have a squeak/scraping rattle over uneven ground which appears to come from behind me. I believe the noise is internal as I have recently had suspension looked at and all is well. Any ideas on where to start looking for the offending Noise? It seems to come from one side but i guess that could just be becuase i am always in the drivers seat.

Drop the rear seats and behind the seat you will find two adjustable buffers on the rear inner wing dome. Screw these out 2 turns. If that doesn't cure it, remove headrests for the rear seats.

One of my rear lights squeak.

my rear headrests squeak like mad!

There was some really annoying squeaks coming from behind me - somewhere in the rear seats/boot area - was doing my head in!

For ages I thought it was the lights (the plastic squeaks where the clear plastic meets the red plastic) but it wasn't them.

Then I thought it was the rear head rests but took them out and drove the car but noise still there.

I had someone else drive the car whilst I sat in the back but magically the noise wasn't there...

So after a few more ideas I finally found out where the squeak was coming from - the parcel shelf was rubbing against the top bit of where the leather on the rear seats turns in on the back!!

So I have basically screwed a plastic bung onto the parcel shelf to create a gap so that the 2 aren't rubbing together - magic!! lol

Got another rattle - the plastic part under the handbrake! - will get that sorted soon tho!

It is also worth tucking the metal clip from the shoulder seat belts on each side into the corresponding cut outs in the trim beside each door.

Interesting to read, I had a squeak/creak coming from behind me and I thought it was internal originally but now I think it might be external? It seems to come and go. I thought that it went when it was rainy but I'm not sure.

I am very sorry for this but the title of this thread made me laugh when I first saw it, was thinking you should of posted it on the nhs direct website, god I'm immature!

Yes I should have thought that one through! It may well be external for me too but I just assumed it to be inside as my suspension is in good order according to local mechanic, its difficult to pin point where its coming from when driving.

Noise from rear (Internal), followed by strange looks and smell, would have been better

Does anyone know a noise/vibration when driving slow on bad roads and same noise when shutting done the engine?

Loose exhaust, or broken exhaust hanger. Gearbox dogbone mounting.
