FABIA vRS FAST IDLING SPEED....

Featured Replies

Anyone had this??

On start-up, the engine goes straight to approx 1500rpm for about 10 secs, then returns to normal idling speed. Quick blip on the throttle sometimes settles it quicker, but have noticed it becoming more frequent over the last few weeks.

To add insult to injury, its started doing this on change-down when driving! When braking and changing down there's a surge as the revs don't drop below the 1500rpm mark. Nearly caught me out the first time, but now its starting to get my goat!!!

Feel like a right **** when its quick idling in traffic :swear: , and dare not let the g/f drive it...

Any comments or suggestions welcomed..

Do you have Vagcom? Might be worth checking for error codes and run some logs.

Could be the MAF playing up, could also be your clutch slipping....

could be throttle pedal

i think i have read on here that they can stick

sounds like it could be the accelerator pedal. mine did it and i gave it a spray of wd40 and it cured it. think bits of grit/dirt from the wet winter get stuck in the assembley. Although i think its electronic so might only be a temporary fix.

It's the actual throttle pedal control module (fly by wire throttle) 20 minute job, part is £90 IIRC

You may need to do an idle re learn if this cars fly by wire?

Negative, the pedal module is a simple potentiometer. ECU simply reads the resistance of the module in any given pedal position.

Many thanks for the the replies guys

Plenty of food for thought there. Will try and get her VAG-COM'd to start with and go from there.

Funnily enough, I took her out today with no issues! Nevertheless its in the back of my mind now so will have to get it done

Thanks again

Hi, I have proabably the same problem with my vrs and seems to be happening more often. I also notice it happens more ( revs surge to 1500 approx ) when I am braking. A blip on the throttle brings it down to normal revs most of the time. The reason I suspect its the throttle is that if its reving to 1500 without any pressure on the throttle , I can get it down to normal by hooking my foot under the pedal and gently raising it.

I note someone tried WD-40 as a temporary solution. Maybe worth trying to see if confirms the problem.

By the way no fault codes when I checked. I would have expected that if indeed throttle is "sticking".

I posted in this a while ago, i had the exact same problems. I have since changed the throttle pedal and its cured!! It cost about £90 and the chrome cover just slips onto the new pedal. It took me about half hour, the bottom of the dash needs to come off so you can access 2 of the 4 nuts. Im pretty sure your problems would be cured by this and not be the maf or clutch. No vagcom was needed and now setting up, just un plug old one, plug in new and your ready to go.

Mine just started doing this very same thing today, revs jump to 1500rpm for a bit then it goes back to normal. Not had it whilst driving yet.

Will try everything thats been said....cheapest first obviously :giggle:
