Superb Combi Fits in my garage...

Featured Replies

While the RS3100 was out of the garage having its pictures taken for the insurance renewal, I thought I'd see if the Superb would fit in and much to my surprise it did :) . Even if I did have to fold the mirrors in to fit between the door frame. :giggle:

Unfortunatly I couldn't get out

With an up and over door I have found that unless the car is a saloon or hatchback, the garage door won't close unless the car is reversed in. This meant that with the bumper about 1/2 inch from the back wall so no escape via the boot and the doors wouldn't open far enough for me to get out because of the intrusion from the garage wall pillars.

So if you want to keep your Superb Combi garagaed overnight, you need something a little wider than a standard width single UK garage

If you have a sunroof then that might be an escape route :D

I had to wait six months for the car i got, no way was I going to wait longer for that :D

It did cross my mind to ask my wife to take a picture, but though better of it as she would have closed the garage door and left me stuck :o

Luxury problems... oh dear :giggle:

Oh dear- hadn't though of that. Just checked and Superb is 4 inches longer than my Avensis Estate which only just fits in the garage :wall::@

I built my own garage, always planned for a big vehicle. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif 18' 6" X 9' with a 7'10" clear opening roller door and inspection pit. Even then there is not a lot of room to open doors just comfortable for entry and exit. Plenty of length for the Combi to open the rear with full lift.

I used no nails and added two runs each side of plastic skirting, it is very thin, the length of the garage to protect the door edges. The skirting strips were fitted 11 years ago for my MkI, and the MkII doors touch in the same places.

Perhaps there is some setting in VCDS that will enable you reset the width dimension so that you can get out.

If not then a FBH would be the next best approach.

Did look at replacing the door for a rollerdoor but too little clearance between the top of the frame and the rafters due to the slope of the roof. Pillars and back wall of the garage all covered in deep pile carpet to protect the door edges and bumpers, the inside of the garage door is insulated and a foam liner.

When I had an Escort Cosworth I had to relocate the garage light so the whale tail spoiler wouldn't smash it.

When I purchased the house 15 years ago, I never thought I would need or afford such a large car.

Going to visit my friendly dealer on Monday, so I will ask about options within the VCDS settings to change the dimensions

Not a major problem as the RS lives in the garage within its own Zeplin :giggle:

You got a train in the garage, so what's the problem getting a Superb in there :D

Whilst in Stevenage I rented a garage from the local council, these were both wide enough to fit the car in comfortably with room to open the doors on one side, but just like the op the mirrors needed to be folded in, and the car reversed in otherwise you could not close the door.. The garage interior was about 1 ft wider than the door frame.
