Fuel Filler Cap - Problem Removing ?/

Featured Replies

Don't think that can be true. If you dont lock the cap after screwing it back on it stays unlocked, i.e next time you fill up, open flap unscew cap. No key needed.

I was gonna say this… If you hate the system, don't bother to re-lock it, It will then be just a screwcap.

Personally, I prefer it as with locking flaps, they can have the cables snap, making opening them tricky without damage and also they can be forcefully opened by scum who want to syphon off your fuel, as they know you most likely do not have a locking cap underneath!

Removing the Filler cap was a bit of a 'Krypton Factor Challenge' the first time I did it!...   But it wasn't really that hard to figure out!, only took me about a minute!!   On the 'Key bundle h

  • Yes its a bit counter intuative to start with the easist way I've found to put up with it is as follows. Insert key, take hold of cap, turn key, remove key, unscrew cap. Screw on cap untill it click

How are people being confused by this very simple and effective means of protecting the petrol in the car?

Operation is simple unless of course one has a faulty cap, in which case change it.

A standard locking flap that opens from a lever inside is even simpler but if ever someone wants to steal the petrol they will simply prise open the flap and cause damage to the vehicle. The locking cap is much better IMO.

There is also, as I mentioned above, the added safety issue of having to take the key from the ignition at the fuel station leaving the car immobilised while filling up.

Hi. I have a Fabia Scout 2013 & the lock on the cap works fine. The problem is that the unlocked cap takes the strength of superman to unscrew it!  Grease on the thread helped but shouldn't be needed. The dealer that I bought it off says nothing can be done (ie not interested, won't use again). Has anyone else the same problem?  Yes I am unlocking correctly.

I felt so stupid for not being able to easily open my fuel tank all three times I had to refill the tank! Today I just said the hell with it and left without refueling, as I was feeling embarrassed to the people waiting behind me in the station (none of them tried to help...). Anyway, I thought to google it and surprise! Too many people facing the same problem! So I will follow the instructions although there's nothing here that I guess i am not doing correct right now! Maybe it needed more strength. Thank you all here.

Just had to check the forum for my missus who was shouting at me over the phone in a petrol station being unable to get the cap off

Yeah, this just happened here too with our first go with the Roomster. She's on her way home with even emptier tank now... :D

It sounds to me the same principle as the mk2 Golf I still have around. But she complained about the regular flip-key not fitting. No idea.

Hi Guys, I had my VRS wagon 3days, & as some of you have been in similar situations, I couldn’t  get the F@$KN Peteril cap off. I have driven for 25years now & this is by far the most challenging puzzle that I had come across.

That was untill I joined this forum & ready up on this topic to realise it was a common problem. I thought I had been sold a lemon.

Thanks to the member named “Can”, for explaining, STEP BY STEP, on how to solve this puzzle.

The car is now full of fuel & I must say, it’s very easy, now that I know what to do.

Thansk for clearing this up
