Octavia vRS pre-FL bluetooth

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am still contemplating fitting a Dension gateway five, but am eagerly waiting on Josis' test results.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/191533-columbus-and-dension-gateway-five/

In the meantime, as ipod connectivity is not as important as bluetooth for the phone, so if I come accross a complete oem kit to retrofit at a reasonable price I will probably do that.

This is where my problems begin. I have been trawling around the forums for a few hours a day for the last 3 days, and only managed to confuse myself, and am now asking for advice. From what I have gathered, I cannot use the latest controllers due to BAP settingsbeing required. I would like it to work with an iphone 3gs, and display in the maxidot. Car is fitted with Columbus unit, but not with a multi function steering wheel (yet).

Is there a definitive list of part numbers that will work in a 2008 pre-fl Octavia vRS, or a link to someone who sells the parts as a kit?

Thanks

Tom

i recommend you GSM II - part number 1Z0 035 729 B, or

GSM III also known as GSM Premium - 5N0 035 730 B/C

As DSA has mentioned above, 1Z0 035 729 B will work in pre-FL and should (I believe) integrate with Maxidot.

You can use a more recent kit (e.g. 7P6 035 730 C) but whilst it will integrate with your Columbus, I don't believe it will show in Maxidot (due to the newer kit talking in BAP which the older Maxidot's don't understand). There's a post here from someone who's had first hand experience of this. It doesn't alter the functionality of the kit - you just can't get the phone menu in Maxidot (which you may be fine with).

What I'm not sure about is the differences in functionality between the older 1Z0 035 729 B and the newer 7P6 035 730 C...I think possibly the newer model supports A2DP for streaming music from your phone via Bluetooth? They both support UHV phones so should work with your iPhone.

You can buy either kit here - this is a  seller that has been used by people on here (including the member in the linked post above).

Wherever you buy from, it's probably worth giving them a bell first just to check and make sure what you're getting will defo work with your car/phone.

Thanks for all the advice.

Have bit the bullet and gone for this kit with the 1Z0035729B module. Bit late now, but have done some more research after I bought it, I am not totally convinced it will work with both Iphones and Nokias. I just hope it will.

I am now in need of some more advice. I am happy with the R&I of the Columbus, but this is where it sort of stops.

I have seen several 'fitting' guides in other forums that require splicing of wires and the like. This kit is advertised as completely plug an play, so I am guessing the wire harness just acts like an extention cord, the mic will go into the centre roof light / sunglass holder, and wiring will go up one of the pillars into the roof lining.

Big question is where and how does the control unit fit? (I believe the drivers seat, but is it left or right?) Do I need to get some sort of mounting frame? Same question for the antenna as well.

Thanks in advance

Well, I very much hope it works...cos I've just bought one of those too!! :D

Yes, it goes under the drivers seat and in order to fit it there you'll need:

- bracket 1Z0 035 815 (e.g. http://www.skodateile.cz/index.php?pg=product∏=44&menu=Å koda%7COctavia%20II%28A5%29%7CGSM%20HF%20a%20přísluÅ¡enství)

- cover 1Z0 971 813 62U (e.g. http://www.skodateile.cz/index.php?pg=product∏=47&menu=Å koda%7COctavia%20II%28A5%29%7CGSM%20HF%20a%20přísluÅ¡enství)

Apologies for the Czech web pages but at least it gives you an idea. The bracket should come with 2 screws to attach it to the chasis and the cover should come with 2 plastic clips to attach it to the bracket.

I don't believe it requires any wire splicing to fit and is pretty much plug and play (apart from the VCDS coding that will be required) - I'll let you know for sure if/as/when I get mine sorted! ;)

Thanks for that. I will get onto the Aus Skoda dealers and see what the damage is to get the bits. Just confirming, when you say drivers seat, you mean the right seat?

If you get you kit before me, which is most likely, can you post photos of how you installed it?

Hi

I have fitted my bluetooth from this link.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280604912022&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

All works well, pairs both the wifes Nokia E63 and my 3GS iphone, maxidot shows what its supposed to so I must have coded it correctly.

Few questions now, the wiring loom supplied has 2 small white plugs, each with 2 wires coming out of them. Does any one have any idea as to what they may be for (i just tied them out of the way)? and

I have lost the Aux input funcionality. The bluetooth harness has its own connector that goes into the one where the Aux use to. Is there an easy way to get this back (could this be what the plugs above are for)?

I am now tossing up whether to get an ipod control unit from Dension, could someone give me some clues as to what may work? I was looking at the gateway five, but with the factory bluetooth I don't think I is warrented.

Cheers

Tom

I remember reading something about this on here, so perhaps the person that made it will come along and say for definite, but I think you need to move part of the loom from the original plug that went in to the radio and place it in to the new plug that goes in the radio.

I'd imagine that comparision of the plugs will allow you to work out which bit should be moved. The harness obv doesn't pass the aux through.

Steve

See this thread for the pin out.... http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/144891-connections-for-bolero/ From that and the picture of the lead on the ebay link, it looks as if the aux should go in the other (empty) side of the connector

Ohhhhh. Read the second to last line of this post: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/190138-facelift-octavia-integrated-bluetooth-install/page__view__findpost__p__2270444
