engine light on again

Featured Replies

hi guys

ive been having the engine management line come on these past few weeks with this code17553-mass air flow sensor short to plus

ive taken it off and cleaned it with some isopropanol and it performed better but now its come back again, its under some hard acceleration in 4th gear that makes the light come on then after a couple of days the light goes out

would you say that its time for a new maf?

the car has done 45,000 mile

where's the best place to purchase one from?

cheers

simon

Sounds like MAF, Euro Carparts or Skoda dealer.

Might be tricky to pin this down. First I would suspect new MAF is faulty (it happens) or the wrong one. If not, car will need wiring between MAF and ECU checked, including the ECU plugs and possibly the ECU itself could be at fault.

i double checked the code on the maf m8,were the same

would some white 'grime' in the plug area to the maf(cable side) make any difference?

has been on before i had the car

ill check all the cables now m8

White gubbins will be someones "cage mod". Meant to seal the MAF to prevent air leaks through the socket pins. If they used the wrong sealant it may have gone slightly conductive if it is holding any moisture. That would be a good place to start, IPA should shift most of it and go from there. Good luck.

i really appreciate your help

It will likely be silicon grease or heat sink compound, the later sometimes has tiny metal particles in it! I've never believed in the cage mod, as the MAF sits in the low pressure induction side, and air passes the MAF mounting at 90 degrees angle. So any escaping air through a tight plug and socket is likely to equal the intensity of a mouse f^rt at 400 yards,

well this has been behaving for a while until today, came up with this error

17553-mass airflow sensor g70 short to plus

this seems to happen on full acceleration when it gets higher up the range mainly 4th gear onwards

ive read on the fabia workshop manual-Replace diesel direct injection system control unit -J248

anyone got any views on this?
