New VRS Air Filter

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I fitted a new air filter at the weekend. Only a standard £11 job from Euro Car Parts but my what a difference it made, much more lively. The old filter didn't look to bad but ha done about 8000 miles.

So that leads me onto the question of after market filters.....I know a lot of you guys use cotton ones but are they that much better than a paper one replaced regularly? Are there better paper ones?

Cheers.

Standard ones are pretty good. Diesel run to much air anyway.

I know the oiled aftermarket filters can cause MAP sensor damage.

I seem to recall reading something about that.

Anyone else use cotton ones and find it doesn't cause a problem?

The oil doesnt really damage the sensor. Im not sure about the maf on the vrs cos i havent taken it apart yet. But on my old the sensor was like a thermistor, it was heated and the amount of temp drop determined the air flow. In that situation the oil cling to the wire so it wasnt getting an accurate reading.

However i only had this problem after re-oiling the filter my self a couple of times. Trick is that you hardly need any oil you just have to let it soak in.

You have to wonder how Skoda reckon the air filter will last 40,000 miles!

All depends on weather. Lot of crap sucked up when roads wet.

I have mentioned it before, I changed mine on a Roiling Road to a K&N panel filter and did not gain any significant power advantage (less than 1%) although they said it would slightly improve over time.
