Crikey!

Just loaded up for a 3 day trip (but wife and 2 young girls)

Boot swallowed 3 large suitcases, my holdall, our large coolbox and a few other things.

It really is enormous.

3 large suitcases, a holdall and a cool box for a 3 day trip... :o It's a good job you bought the best car for the job

Did you take the wife and daughters IN the suitcases :giggle: or did you let them use the seats?

Same here, last summer my Superb took 4 adults, a weeks luggage on a 1500 mile round trip to the Mosel in Germany. Return journey included gifts and 6 cases of wine. Everything got squeezed into the boot. All this had no adverse affect on the handling at all, still averaged 49mpg overall and easily got up to 130mph on the Autobahn where conditions allowed. Tell me which car this side of 35 grand could have done all this??

Off to France in the summer. Will have wife, two kids, caravan on tow, bikes on the roof and inflatable canoe in the boot along with lots of other stuff. Much better than the previous A4 Avant!

How much does it cost to take a caravan over these days?? ferry or tunnel return, would be interested to know the total cost

As I am in Northern Ireland I will be going direct from Rosslare in Ireland. This is quite a bit more expensive than going from the south of England.

My alternative is Belfast to Stranraer, drive down to the south coast and get a channel ferry. When I factor in the extra fuel, the need for an overnight stop each way and the fact that I will have an 8 year old and a 4 year old in the back I think it is easier to do the overnight from Rosslare!

From what I have seen there are deals to be had of the order of £70/£80 on way on some of the channel ferries depending on routes and times.

that's nothing:

3 large suitcases, and a large dog cage (colappsed, with the dogs bed and dog herself on top, plus smaller hand luggage. Placed a tarpaulin over all the suitcases and other stuff as the dog gets travel sick on long journeys.

And that's all in the Saloon version!!!

After that we got a baby, so we now have a roof rack. the babies buggy goes in the roof box, with bikes beside the box, leaving loads of space for extra junk we might get asked to transport by the extended family (always happens when crossing the Irish sea, as there's lots of family both sides & I'm the only one making regular trips in a car).

Next time we'll be adding a caravan on the return leg.

Here is what normally lives in my boot:

Large tool bag

28v Milwaukee drill in it's box

24v Makita drill/chisel in a BIG box

Extension lead

Vac pump

2 x medium size plastic boxes for storing ramdom 'crap' like brazing kit, OFN regulator etc etc

Crimp set in plastic case

Electronic refrigeration gauges in plastic case

Electronic refrigerant charging scales in plastic case

Foldable telescopic combination ladders

Pipe flaring/swaging kit in plastic case

Various cans of cleaner, leak detector etc etc

Large socket set in plastic case

Thermometer/Hygrometer kit in storage case

Insulation resistance tester in storage case

Loads of other ramdom bits.

Side cubbies have things like jump leads, air compressor, washer fluid etc etc

All this and the tonneau cover still pulls over as well emoticon-0140-rofl.gif . No prizes for guessing why I chose a Superb Combi.

The car still averages 50mpg if i'm easy on the throttle and there is still tons of space left in the car. Brilliant.

Cheeky git emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I've already ruined the alignment after 13,000 miles emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

You forgot your lunch box as well :giggle:

At last a fridge engineer who knows how a Superb works with fridge gear in.

Sounds just like the load I carry in my car. Has the weight had any effect on the tyre wear? My current car shredded tyres until I had the camber reset to my usual tool weight.

I'm currently toying with a change from a 150Bhp Vectra Elite Nav estate to a superb. Vectra has been great but took a superb for a test drive a few months and now hooked. Loved the space in both boot and interior, the clincher was the DSG. The only bug bear is the as the dealer put it, 6 month wait Sir!. Would like the 170 DSG but also the 4x4. As they only do the 140 4x4 DSG at the moment am hoping Skoda will announce a 170 very soon (Geneva maybe). But need to make the call soon, hanging on as long as I can. Current car has 120,000 on now and is crying out to be replaced. Has been no trouble up to now, no breakages, great mpg and very comfy. But its not a big booted Superb!

How can I not buy a Superb! Perfect fridge engineer car with such a big boot.

I went for an ex demo car, it had 2,800 on the clock and I picked it up a week after the test drive. The rear tyres don't look bad for asymmetric tyre wear, they are pretty consistently worn across the width of the tyre. I need a 4 wheel alignment ASAP as the front has taken a few heavy knocks from crappy pot holes,I currently have a buckled alloy so would recommend 17" alloys at most.

I might try and have the rear camber tweaked to compensate for constant heavy loads in the back.

Handling wise, its pretty good, even with a full load in the boot I was more than able to keep up with 'Mr Insignia' along a nice quick twisty B road I like to use every now and again emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I think it is the ideal car for a service engineer, I can easily do an install from the boot of the car which is the benchmark for me.

Forgot to mention the Promax RG5410a recovery unit that frequents the boot of the Superb too emoticon-0148-yes.gif All of this with NOTHING on the back seats emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
