Best kept secret in motoring?

Featured Replies

Just been to Scotland for a break with the family, drove up Saturday, back down today. In over 400 miles, I've only seen one Superb II, an Amethyst purple estate on the A75 near Dumfries on saturday. It's either the best kept motoring secret or the supply problems are having a noticeable effect on their presence on the road.....

The same was true last week, a business trip to Chester,M62, M60 and M56 both ways and didn't see a single one!

Feel very smug that I have ordered what appears to be an exclusive car!

A year ago i felt the same. There are more Superbs appearing in this area now and it is quite funny cause they either wave in a friendly manner (which I do also) or they look in surprise to see another car like theirs on the road.

When the Superb 2 was launched I was not too impressed with it's looks but it has grown on me ever since.

Yep I agree, I'm still waiting for mine to turn up. I've seen maybe two on the road onthe m4 in the last week.

Instark contrast to the millions of bmer's (me being one of them) and audi's

Another well oiled phase, which always brings a smile to my face, and I am now beginning to believe it to be true.

Bmer - the poor man's Mondeo.

Just think about it for moment!!!!!!!!!!!

I travel 40 miles up the M56 to Manchester every weekday for work. I always see the same twin-hatch with a private plate in Rosso Red, and maybe a couple of white twin-hatches around Manchester City Centre, but other than that I don't ever recall seeing anything else, and never a Combi.

Mind you, I had to drive to Bristol the other week and I saw three combi's in one day...!!

Still waiting for mine though... :(

It's an Audi for Mondeo money.

Nice feeling ain't It?

Enjoy.

Phil

If Skoda sales are now up at 2% of UK registrations, and Superb accounts for about 25% of that means that on average one in every 200 new cars registered is a Superb, if assume average life of car of about 10 years, then means less than 1 in 2000 cars is a Superb, so not really surprising there is still exclusivity. I agree with GK that the looks of the twindoor grow on you.

I think the twindoor looks more imposing than the combi- the combi masks its size well as it is such a well proportioned car, the twindoor is almost like a lanky teenager- width/legnth look slightly out of kilter, but that is part of its charm.

There are quite a few Superbs in Tayside now, and I was gutted to see a twindoor Rosso Brunello running around Dundee area a couple of weeks ago, also note that new Skoda dealer in Dundee has a twindoor in Rosso, so when I get mine late April it will certainly not be alone when I visit Dundee :giggle:

Have been seeing more and more on my travels, saw 6 last Monday going to St Austell in Cornwall, even saw a combi in Mocca

Over here the majority of Superbs are hatch/sedan versions working as taxis, however there are a few estates about, and the numbers are growing.

In the past week, I've seen 2 with CD plates on.

Even the Embassy's are cutting back on car costs, I wonder if these Superbs have been bullet proofed emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

I doubt if they were official embassy cars, just belonging to embassy staff.

Saying that though, one of them had a holder for a flag on the wing.

The police handle all VIP transport here, and they are very very efficient at it. Mercedes, Audi, and BMW are the cars used by the police close protection people.

Last week I saw one such car: an Audi A8 with a 6.3l w12 engine. It was probably the A8l armoured version...

This one confuses me, I have no desire to own a mondeo and would never see it as superior to my BMer :giggle: I love my little 123d Coupe for the outstanding twin turbo diesel engine, good mpg and great acceleration & build. Less common then the 3 that's for sure, some people consider them to be pig ugly, I like it though  The thing that gets me is how the 35 - 50k BMers/Audi's are so common, some people must be financed up to the hill!!!

The Superb estate is without doubt the best car for me maintaining good performance, build and being able to seat my everygrowing Alaskan Malamute puppy. Plus I'm bored of paying £200 a tyre

Hi there Live in warrington often flash down to Chester/cheshire oaks via M56 in our 2litre (chip express )Superb 2 litre TDI 4x4 Elegance Hatch ,clearly our colleagues coming towards Manchester only see a blur as we fly towards them !! You need to focus on the Skoda Badge as we Zoom towards you - What a car nearly 2 years old and getting sweeter all the tine .

I saw three Superb estates today, that's a new record for me.

I guess this means I've now been 'spotted'.

Good job it was Sat and not Wed, as the driving was a little less sedate in order to catch the ferry. I was glad to have a big chunk of power under the right foot for a change. For a big girl, she can fairly hitch up her skirts and leg it when the fancy takes her. B)

A reasonable number of them in and around Chester.

Drove up to Murrayfield for the Ireland game at the weekend.

4 heavy blokes and a pleasure to drive there and back.

All 3 passengers had a go in the rear and were gushing at the legroom and comfort levels.

Engine more than gutsy enough for anything asked of it (even with all the weight).

As time goes by, the decision to buy it just gets more and more a good one.

Shame about the result!

  • 2 weeks later...
