Range Rover Evoque

Featured Replies

Just been reading the on-line Auto Express article re the Evoque and my first impression is 'who sat on it' :giggle: Not suggesting it's a rival for the Monster as it's starts a good 10k more than a Elegance DSG 4x4, however the one thing I like about the Yeti is the view out. Can imagine the view from the Evoque is similar to that of a 'Pillbox' :o

reminds me of an old man with his trousers pulled up too far, all body and no windows lol

I LOVE it! Have sat in the three door version at many a motor show and the view out is fine. Out back is very resticted though with huge blindspots around the C-pillar. The rear window is also postcard narrow - but no more than that of a BMW X6.

Has glass become more expensive than steel? Seems odd to make the view out so small. The front has quite a snarl on it and I imagine this car could terrify BMW if they get it right.

In 1986 I bought one of the first 4 door Range Rovers (80' model) in Lincoln Green with a black roof and tan velour upholstery. It had been

owned by a farmer in Norfolk so the g/box / engine were shot. There was an ants nest in it behind the rear seats, initially couldnt work out

where the little buggers were coming from, but the car had character, (and a few odd smells). After a couple of years i had a new 5 speed

box (LT77) and 3.9ltr petrol engine fitted running on modified twin strombergs, also fitted a front bull bar and rear light guards plus a stainless exhaust.

I joined the local off-road owners club, not taking part in the trials but drove between the stages across fields, up 1/20 inclines etc, never got stuck once.

The modern 4x4 has evolved into something else and as a result (in my opinion), has lost a lot of the orginal presence /character.

ie: They usually come with road tyres which are crap at getting across even a grassy field (mine had Mitchelin Mud and Snow tyres).

The hum from them at motorway speeds was not that unpleasant. I eventually sold the old girl in 2007 to an enthusiast and still miss it.

I was looking forward to the Evoque coming out.

But the pictures in autoexpress today of that silver one look rather tame.

they should have chosen a better colour to show off the styling. Like bright red or something...

It didn't look nearly as nice as I was expecting.

I saw one today - somewhere between Coventry and Warwick at a guess, going the other way. Must say it looked fantastic - apart from the white roof, which looked downright silly on a red car. Nice shape though; I'll be trying one out when the Yeti hits 3 (company car allowance scheme says nothing over 4 years old, and the waiting list for another Yeti will probably be close to a year by then!)

I like it very much indeed! B)

We thought the same about the Kia Sportage when we test drove it. With the blacked-out rear windows as well, SWMBO took to referring to it as "the gangster car". (I think she had the modern pop-a-cap-in-yo-ass type of gangster rather than Jimmy Cagney.) From Johann's description it sounds as if the effect on vision from within the cabin is similar, too.
