Forge pipework size for the Seat intercooler?

Featured Replies

Gentleman:

What size pipework is required for Making up my own Seat fitting kit?

I believe the majority of the pipe work is 2", however the actual fittings on the Seat intercooler are 2 1/4"?

I copied this from a post on here a while ago, dont know if its any use

right this will be miles better than the forge kit......

i'll number the items in the order they go... this will get you from the turbo right through

working away from the turbo....

1. 90 degree silicone bend 50mm

2. 80 degree stainless bend 50mm

3. Long silicone 50mm coupler (around 250mm long)

4. 90 degree stainless bend 50 mm

5. reducer from 57mm - 50mm.....

Intercooler ( i believe its 57mm outlets, but you should measure to confirm, may be 64mm)

6. reducer 57mm - 50mm

7. 45 degree stainless bend 50mm

8. straight coupler 50mm

9. 90 degree stainless / aluminium map sensor pipe (possibly phone up forge and get this item seperately?) or get a 90 stainless bend and get somewhere to make you a mounting point

10. 45 degree silicone reducer bend 50mm - 57mm

11. vRS Dovit top stainless intercooler pipe 57mm

12. 57mm 90 degree silicone bend

13. jabbasport 57mm egr delete

I might be selling my pipework as I want to go custom and have 2.5" pipework straight through.

I'm cool thanks, the reason I'm making my own, is because I want black hoses.

Thanks Mattie! Whoever posted it is slightly wrong though, it's 51mm not 50mm lol.

Does anyone know the intercooler outlet size?

Why? The turbo is only good for a few extra ponies.

You go bigger and you'll have lag

If you pursue this anytime soon, let me know how you get on as I'd rather black hoses too!

Baffles me why Forge only make them in blue :dull:

You have a point (to an extent).

1/4" of difference will not make a difference in the slightest. Think about it Luke, how big is the turbo's outlet?

Badger 5 motorsport do a 3" tip for the 1.8T engines that seem to give good gains, all the Cupra R boys are using them and he said he sees no reason why it won't give gains on the PD engines. The Forge pipework doesn't uprate the whole system and there's a lot of silicone, I'm going to be having custom hosework done similar to JonJay's on SeatCupra.net along with a bigger exhaust as he said the Miltek system is more restrictive. He's seen 257bhp with the same turbo as me (MD376) but it's more to future proof myself if I decide to get a bigger turbo later down the line.

3" tip? What's that?

Looks nice that engine bay does, need to look over on SeatCupra.net for ideas.

With Silicone, you dont get that much boost flex, maybe with standard rubber hoses yeah.........

I'm gonna sound like a broken record, but has he got up-rated injectors?

So it does ;)

3" tip?

Think he means the snail end. Sounds expensive too me all for a small gain if anything

but it's more to future proof myself if I decide to get a bigger turbo later down the line.

bigger turbo's are mounted differently so will need all new custom pipework again lol!!!

the one on my golf was on a custom mani same idea as the jabbasport big turbo conversion

(on top of engine pointing out towards air filter)

lol

my bad on being 1mm out!

someone slap me!!!

tbh there is no point in going bigger than 50/51mm on the pd150 turbo as the outlet on the turbo is only 50mm anyways

on my vnt 20 hybrid the outlet was 57mm

Is the pipework still routed round the left hand side of the engine?

Is the pipework still routed round the left hand side of the engine?

nope....

just depends on the turbo...

i believe the one devonutopia uses vk2260 or whatever its called is near enough in the oem position...

but others aren't

with jabbasports conversion you will require the pro alloy fmic and the turbo is mounted on the top of the engine, like my vnt 20 hybrid

yellow circle = turbo location and that piping is in 57mm as thats the turbo fitment size

jase, you should start making your own FMIC kits you obviously know your stuff mate and there will be plenty of people on here that would buy one! i know a good silicone supplier!

proper nightmare though are boost hoses...

id love to have a pipebender and welding machine, then we'd be cooking with gas

ive been thinking of trying to get hold of one of those things forge give you to link your standard pipes to regular silicone ones, fairly sure i can get them made up locally! thing is that people are having to pay 250 pounds for that forge pipe kit! when you can easily buy the component parts for half that! its just uncertainty with measurements. Also one thing that plays on my mind is that dual pass core in the seat kit, compared to a single pass design they arent anywhere near as good, remember thats a OEM part which is designed with cost in mind, the pro alloy one jabba sell looks more like it! but then it should for 800 quid! i think if you so single pass and twice as thick as the seat one that would be spot on!

i spotted this car at dubfreeze last week, sorry if its anyones off here but i was just really looking at the intercooler set up

that intercooler kit looks terrible lol!!

you can buy the adapters of either SFS or Forge individually...

but if you follow my guide on pg1 you dont need them as your going from turbo to inlet manifold
