It certainly looks as though something has hit it, rather than any kind of stress failure etc. Possibly a large stone from a pothole, or even somebody swinging a bag or other such object in a car park? Annoying - hope you can get it replaced without too much trouble.

It looks as if as stone, or similar, has been thrown up and done the damage.

I wonder if that will be covered under warranty?

In all honesty it wouldn't cross my mind to even consider a warranty claim on that. The photo is excellent and, unless I'm mistaken, there are abrasion marks adjacent to the crack. How could this be considered warranty worthy?

I recently noticed that my front number plate has had a dig - nothing major but it looks as though, maybe, a towbar has nudged it and this damage looks like a parking dig too....or, as mentioned, a flying stone, but it'd have to a been a bit of a monster! Unless there's something not obvious or I'm seeing it wrongly, if it was repaired under warranty I'd be asking why? If it was then I'd say the OP has had a result!

Still very annoying though and I very much hope it can be sorted without major expense. It's the sort of component easily damaged and I'd like to think it wouldn't cost the earth.

Agreed Oldstan. That looks like a sizeable impact. You'd surely have felt that if it was a stone?

At least it stopped it going through the radiator.

looks like a shopping trolley ding to me, the two marks on the left look about the right size of space between the two ribs that run around some shopping trollies

Replacement grilles (or is it grills?) are £23.93 + VAT. As an FYI in case anyone has a cracked on in future.

Well, having spoken to James, he is ordering me a new one. I didn't even consider warranty as I could tell that it had been hit by something, somewhere.

Should be with me next week.

Sounds like a fair conclusion to me.

Find your local "Dent Master" man and get him to mend the old one, or do it yourself with some Araldite from behind, then keep it as a spare, or sell it.

Mike maybe that truck downpipe you hit on the M25 had a bolt that hit you at the same time?!

There is a bit missing in the middle when you push the parts together, but it is worth thinking about gluing together.

Johann, the damage is new.....

nah, not really, I'm just doing too many miles, up to 4300 at the moment, and it will be around 5000 by the end next week. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Mike, might be something to do with all that extra BHP you now have

I'm sure you've kept your speed legally subsonic, so can't see wind pressure being responsible!

Actually, looks like quite a wallop to have caused this; must have happened while you were away from the vehicle.

Someone with a bike rack mounted on a towbar managed to reverse into an Octavia I had and broke the grille, as they pulled forward they managed to take the grille with them. Rather annoyingly I found it about 2 aisles away attached to the back of a Ford Galaxy with about 6,000 children inside it.

emoticon-0106-crying.gif to see Elsie the Helipad's been in the wars again. Presume there's no feathers or fur indicating a bird or animal strike :wonder: was a big problem when I worked with aircraft.

Part of a team that had to bring a Harrier back by road following an emegancy landing at an airport in Scotland. Unfortunately it hit an Osprey or other large bird of pray. The initial impact put a fist size hole in the top of the engie intake before it then punched through the leading edge of the wing. What was left of the poor thing we recovered from the engine bay :S Pilot was very lucky it was not a few inches lower and gone in the intake; would have otherwise been testing out the Martin Baker :o
