Gearbox oil change

Featured Replies

I've noticed my Fabia's gears are not quite so smooth as they were, not bad by any stretch of the imagination but it just takes a bit more effort than when the car was newish to slide the stick into gear.

I was wondering if a gearbox oil change might be a good idea, particularly since the car is a learner tuition vehicle? I can't remember what mileage the service manual reckons was appropriate for a gearbox oil change but I remember thinking it was a bit too high, I seem to recall it was 150,000 or something of that order.

Would a slightly early gearbox oil change do any harm?

Polite bump

Is this a fairly easy job, I remember it was on my last car.

No it wont do any harm.

Also as far as i can remember, the gear box oil check / change was recommended during 2nd service - that would be at approx 30000 miles?

Nah mate, at the 30000 mile service the level was checked, maybe topped up if it was low. It's still the same oil in there.

I'm hoping it's an easy job...it should be. Last motor was just a case of undoing the fill plug, undoing the drain plug, letting the oil out, replace drain plug, fill with a funnel/siphon tube until it started dripping out the fill hole, replace fill plug...job done!

Finally decided to get round to doing this...does anyone know how much oil the gearbox takes? there's no mention of it in the manual.

Thanks

2 litres should do it

Thanks mate.

If it is like the MKI Fabia then fill it up until in starts coming out of the top fill hole....when it is level with the bottom of this hole and does not come out then you have the correct level. B)
