Sounds like my car is falling to bits!

Featured Replies

hi guys i not had this car long 51 plate fabia 1.4 mpi classic with 91k on the clock :) , im completly new to skodas but im having a serious problem with regards to my suspension i have got a horrible knocking/ clunking noise that sounds like the front end of my car is falling to bits!!, its sounds like metal on metal. To find what the problems are plus others i have changed the timing chain, arb droplinks the arb bushes are in good condition and have no play also the disc and pads and trackrods and ends have all been changed, the steering feels very loose on the passenger side and the whole geometry of the car just doesnt feel right ive other topics about different knocking noises but mostly on the vrs's but im clueless to what this is. :S :dull:

p.s sorry for the getting straight tp the point but i need to keep the cost down if theres any ideas of what it could be and what i could do myself without the need for a garage i would really be grateful as i just dont feel safe driver it a the moment.. :(

console bushes

thanks for that will not be too dear i guess and hope this sorts the problem cheers

console bushes are about £9 each and you need 2. Best to get the ones from the ibiza cupra. Go to a seat dealer and ask for .... Part No 6LL407183

Shouldnt take more than an hour or so to fit for a mechanic

Id go for the new x pattern skoda bushes. Wouldnt want too decrease the ride quality with solid rubber ones.

I've just had the new skoda consoles fitted today - absolutely mint, they've transformed the car. No funny vibrations, just nice & solid

I had a similar problem, a clunking metal on metal noise, never found out what it was though... I was driving as usual over a few bumps clunking away then a sound of something falling of and out of the right wheel arch and then silence... problemo solved. (Driven 300+ miles since)

Srsly though, if I don't post in a week it means my car fell to pieces on the motorway.

Mine had a similar thing, turned out to be a broken spring ;) Just the top turn had broken off, didn't really make any difference to the handling/braking - failed me an MOT though ;)

eugh -.- those are around £90 for a pair my MOT is in Sept, with all the other problems that the car has it'll be a miracle if it makes it there

Its pretty easy to spot though, have a quick nosey at them - shouldn't even need to jack it up (you'll need a torch tho :p)

I changed the front springs on mine, both droplinks and one trackrod end (cause i had to cut the damn thing off!) and it cost around £120 with parts from GSF - but then again i did the work myself on my driveway, you could probably double that with labour costs though.
