Water ingress. Octy estate

Featured Replies

Hi. Can anyone help. I have a serious water problem in the boot of my 07vrs estate. I have no apparent wetness on the carpets that I have found and the tailgate seal looks ok. Are there any common problems in the boot area?

Many thanks

Chris

Ps if I have posted in the wrong area please move, sorry

Common problem on the Octavia, it's very likely to be a loose rear screen washer pipe.

They can leak anywhere along their length but the most posted area seems to be right next to the nozzle behind the high level brake light.

Thanks I'll check that. In all honesty tho I don't tend to use the rear washer much at all. Id be right in thinking the rear wash wouldn't drain on it's own would it?

I wouldn't have thought so.

Some do also complain that the rubber boot seal doesn't drain very well which when it rains then dribbles into the boot?

Tail light seal was an issue on my previous Octy 2. Put optional rubber sealing what is in use for windows and doors , that sorted issue.

In all honesty tho I don't tend to use the rear washer much at all.

How do you manage that?

My rear screen gets real filthy real quick :dull:

Had similar problem. Cause one of two plastic grommets on rear boot panel not fitting properly. Replaced them with rubber ones which seal better. Test by pouring water over outside of rear boot panel

thanks. could you describe where on the boot the errant grommits are located as i may as well change them whilst sealing the high level brake light and checking the washer hose.

many thanks

Hi

Inside they are in the spare wheel well to rear below boot level. They are behind bumper if looking for them from outside. (It may be different on your car mine is a FL Estate)I also coated the new ones in silicone when fitting. Get a hose pipe and concentrate it on gap between rear bumper and bodywork-might show if the grommets are at fault.

In the past where I have had a leak I have added a little blue food colouring to watering can (and once to washer bottle) to trace where water was coming from.

Washer hoses are problem but you can check this by opening boot-operating rear washer and seeing if water is coming out of the bottom of the boot lid.

Oh the joys of car ownership!
