Help,Traction and Abs aLights are on

Featured Replies

My mate got a 2006 Vrs PD 170 Octy and on a trip to scotland this weekend the Abs, traction and tyre pressure lights keep coming on intermitantly. When he starts the car the lights stay on for a minute or so and then go off!!

Has anyone got any hints or tips to try before having to go to the expense of the local Skoda dealer

Any help would be really apprciated, I tried a search for resetting the ecu but I'm guessing this needs to be done with the VAGCOM thing which obviously we haven't got.

No experience with tyre pressure monitoring, but here's some generalities.

ABS and TC(all types) work in part by monitoring roadwheel rotation speed, so if a tyre pressure is significantly out, by which I mean enough to reduce the effective rolling radius of the wheel, that can throw an ABS fault. So there's a cheap and easy check to start with.

Beyond that, most faults throwing ABS and TC faults are likely to be with a wheel sensor, its wiring, or the associated rotor ring (both systems use the same wheel sensors). This means that VCDS is essential for fault-finding, since it can point you to the specific corner of the car.

Thanks that all makes perfect sense, I'll check the tyres just in case
