This is the car that featured in that article , and also took pride of place on the front page of the 'Berwick Advertiser' around the same time! It is pictured on the Skoda Owners Club GB stand at the BVAC Classic Car show at Mellerstain House , near Kelso in 1994...enjoy!!

and as for the new shape...well the fact that its an octavia/golf underneath is its only saving feature....
