Hello Briskodians,

Basically I'm hoping to get a Turbo Dynamics hybrid PD150 (MD376) for my Fabia and will therefore need a FMIC as well as the other modifications.

The Turbo

I am wondering which FMIC to go for and would appreciate users thoughts on which system is better?

The SS FMIC will work out about £150 cheaper than the Forge system but will require more work (labour charges) to make it fit. I won't be fitting either system myself.

I believe Jabbasport do a Pro Alloy FMIC, which I know very little about.

Even if I decide not to go down the MD376 route then a FMIC will still be beneficial to my car. Its mapped to 170 & 300 and a few other bits and bobs.

Thanks in advance

Hi Farmer11,

Firstly it depends how far you wish to go with your car I suppose.

If it was my money I'd go for the Forge item. It is made specifically for the vRS and essentially bolts straight on. Many people seem to slate the Forge FMIC, stating the Seat Sport is bigger and more effective. It might be (I know for a fact it is bigger, I'm not sure about performance differences however). I'm sure someone more in the know will point out their differences here shortly.

Plenty of people, myself included, run the Forge item in Fabias over 200bhp- some WELL over. Plus, if you PM ForgeMotorsportUK on here, they'll sort you out with a very worthwhile discount.

Just my input, Forge are a very reputable company and are superb to deal with. Happy shopping.

over on seat cupra net

a few have tried the forge / seat

seat is better for 230bhp+

forge is fine for low 200's

i also believe forge is making a twin pass fmic for the fabia?

personally if i was fitting myself id go seat sport... but if i had to pay some monkey to do it. i would want the forge as it will be easier

but then again would the extra 150quid the forge costs make up for the labour to fit the seat sport?

Thanks for that, very useful

It seems like the SS will work better if I push the turbo to 230bhp + (which I would)

Got the forge and I'm at 240, no problems here. The intercooler is mainly sat behind the crash bar so it doesnt matter how big it is, unless you cut a section out like I did last weekend ;)

Find somewhere decent, doubt it`ll cost that much more to fit the seat sport.

Matt

I've got the forge one and it does the job nicely.

When everything has been bought for the SS one there isn't a great deal of money in it compared to what the forge one costs.

Regardless of which one you go for half of the cooler is stuck behind the crash bar with virtually no air passing through it !

Seat Sport on mine.

Although mainly for cost reasons, as it worked out so much cheaper than the Forge item, even after fitting costs.

no flow i hear you say??

Big mouth looks gash on a black car and I'm not a lover of mesh neither. Even powder coated it still chips

Considering the Forge FMIC is a direct fit with no crash bar cutting required, and the price you can secure one for if you contact ForgeMotorsportUK; the Forge option is a very good one I'd say. To those who enquire, I assure you Forge will give you a good deal.

I know the Seat Sport FMIC is much bigger and acknowledge it may be better for higher bhp figures, but it is clear the Forge kit can cope with big power also (like Sy. is running).

I'm not associated with Forge in any way; thought I'd put that in here as I may sound like a rep hunting for sales! Its just there doesn't seem to be a huge deal of positive press for this item in comparison to the SS item, and I'm not sure why. Thought I'd balance it up a touch from my experience.

It seems both items are very good bits of kit.

Seat Sport

That is all.

If you have a decent independent that knows what they are doing (I used unit 18), fitting isnt much more hassle than the forge item. Add to that it is cheaper (not by as much as it was tho granted), and the above comparison of size, I personally would go for the Seat Sport.

My mate has a forge, and he keeps say he wants a Seat Sport because its bigger. In that situation i`d not say that it was worth the extra outlay, as i keep telling him

Matt

Seat Sport

That is all.

Seat sport is made for a 160bhp standard car

Who are forge?

Someone who works for them must not have done their maths,

Ignore the sarcasm I've had a drink

Edited by Sy.

The PD engine is made for a 130-160bhp standard car though but it's still good for 300bhp+ with different **** strapped to it. :)

I'm not saying X is better than Y but the SS FMIC also helped my car make 240bhp. Either will do fine but personally I went for the SS FMIC as I prefer how it looks with both the entrance and exit on the drivers drive rather than a long pipe looping back under itself (Forge FMIC). :)

Mind on the forge on both the ibiza and fabia are designed for the pd130 :)

What is a FMIC ??

I can understand 'Intercooler'emoticon-0145-shake.gif

Looks like a monster of a contraption to get fitted, is it really essential for a standard or modified vehicle.

All that channelled air just ends up in the standard size engine air intake ??

I could see an oil cooler being more engine friendly and beneficial. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Well I've taken the first step towards getting this done... Ordered a stainless top boost pipe from vRS Dovit!

From what I have read so far on here and SeatCupra.net I'll be using the SS

Thanks for all the input!

FMIC = front mounted intercooler. Bigger version of the standard little side mount, but is at the front for more airflow. Even on a standard car can help reduce heat soak, and it's a must on more tuned cars.

Unless your running a lot of power, and things are getting hot then a oil cooler isn't going to help, in fact, cold oil is going to do more harm than good.

Matt

out of curiosity would any of you fit a standard FMI off a similar model.. wouldnt that be alot cheaper? or would fitting / mounting be more of an issue?

Well thats the seat sport isnt it, its from a ibiza.

Matt

Closes you can get to a simple bolt on from another model is a Ibiza cupra.

Would have always thought forge as that is a performance item while the seat sport one isn't.

It doesn't seem to make much difference. Although haven't a few of the seat owners running big power blown holes in the seat ibtercoolers?
