Panoramic sunroof and 1.4 tdi

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, after 2 Octavias I'm looking at a Roomster (probably 1 or 2 year old) for my next car. I know I can find all this out at the dealers eventually ,but I have only ever driven a Roomster2 1.4 petrol.

I'm 6ft 5" tall Does the sunroof adversley affect the headroom in the front ? I had to turn down a really decent Mk1 Octavia L&K once because the sunroof meant my head was always touching the headlining...

I've had 2 1.9 PD Octavias and like that engine, but is the 1.4 diesel ok for the Roomster ? Any experiences from owners would be appreciated. Thanks.

Morning Classic,

Can't help with the sunroof query as mine isn't fitted with one, but I do have a son who is 6ft 5in like yourself and he has ample headroom in the Roomster. Suggest you locate a Roomster with the sunroof to check it out before committing yourself of course, but I don't think you'll find space being a problem.

As far as the 1.4tdi engine goes I would say it suits the car very well. Mine is four years old and has covered 42000 miles without any concerns at all. I find it adequately powerful and pleasantly economical. I can compare it directly to the 1.9 because "her indoors" also has a Roomster and hers has got the 1.9 tdi engine. That obviously has a bit more grunt when pulling away but the difference in performance is not that huge. We travel mostly on dual carriageways and do a lot of urban driving so spirited back road stuff would probably swing the decision towards the 1.9 engined car. Suffice to say that both the diesels appear to be good choices in this car (as long as you get the 80bhp 1.4 and not the 70bhp version) We frequently drive each others cars and no-one has yet mentioned that either one is inferior to the other.

Probably the only discernible advantage that the 1.4 can claim is that the insurance premium is lower, and it possibly does a mile or two more per gallon.

Enjoy your search for one that suits you.

The Panoramic Sunroof is just a fixed piece of glass rather than a conventional opening sunroof, so doesn't affect the headroom at all.

+1

I love the sunroof on mine and consider it a must-have (but expensive) accessory.

Thanks for those replies - just what I needed !

Ideally I think I'll go for a 1.9, as it will quite often be fully loaded the extra bit of grunt from the 1.9 will come in handy. Thanks again

I have the 1.6 tdi SE with the sunroof and it is a fantastic car.

I'm 6ft 4" and there's plenty of headroom. Also lots of legroom too.

I used to have a Saab 9-5 and hit the roof every time I went over a bump. I am amazed how much room is in the err Roomster.

I eventually opted for the 1.9 and I have not regretted my choice. MPG and emissions are almost identical to the 1.4 (80bhp) and according to fellow Briskodians, the 1.9 is less harsh than the 3-cylinder 1.4. My 1.9 has masses of low-rev torque and I cannot think of any occasion when I have had to use every one of its 105 horses.

The 1.4 (80bhp) and 1.9 diesels are excellent, fuel-efficient engines and unlike the latest diesels, have no Diesel Particulate Filters to worry about.
