Can VCDS be used.....

to code an ECU to my mk1 Octavia vRS?

I have broken a car that had a normal generic Remap by IP and from driving it, I liked it and think that it will be good on mine with the mods I have. I am not 100% liking the Custom one I have on mine atm so want to have this one on mine.

a few things tho.

1: how easy is it to code it in to my car? if at all.

2: If/When its done, can I swap them over again?

3: will the milage be screwed up? or does the dash dials store the miles? mine has 93K on it and the other had 112k on it?

4: The other car didnt have Cruise control on it but mine has. will that be coded to it too?

cheers

1: it is easy to do if you know the SKC code of both ecu's -Then VDCS can be used to code the second Ecu to your car.

If you dont know the SKC you would need some thing like vag tacho to read out from the dash but would still need someone to read out the 95040 chip in the other ecu.Have a word with someone like Shark Performance they can probably help you out as they are probably closer than me as im way down south in sunny Portsmouth,

http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/

2:Yes once coded to the car you can swap between ecu's with out any problems.

3:The Mileage is stored in the dash so will not be affected by the other ecu.

4:The other/new ecu will need the cruise control activating but this is also very easy with VCDS.

cheers mate,

is it a 4 digit number? If so I have the one for my ecu but the other I dont. how do you get it?

take it you need more than just vcds then?

cheers

Yes it is a four digit number. So your half way there already!

Do you know if the old owner has the code for his ecu, might be worth asking.

Normally I would open the ecu and can read the data in place with special clip, some people desolder the 95040 soic to dump the data then read the skc or you can just over write the data with your original ecu data.

If you Know someone to dump the 95040 chip I will tell you the skc from it.

If not try your closest tuning company they should be reasonably priced I know Shark are from their posts thats why i recommended them.

If you do find it too expensive for this service pm me and we will sort something out.

Hope this helps

cheers, I got mine way back when I registered on here. mine was de soldered. so I take it the ECU needs to be out?

can that code be got from the ecu by using the OBD port?

cheers for your help mate.

least it can be done.

The code cannot be read over the OBD port from the ECU, you can read it using vag-tacho from the instrument cluster as both codes match. If the car is already broken down to the point that the cluster is removed then you'll need to get someone to read the chip in the ECU by opening it up.

not normally most software/hardware will read the SKC code from the dash and not from the ecu which will not help you.

OK Ive got the ECU in my car now and OMG I love the map. Seems to suit my car, the small 1-2 sec LAG from putting foot and the actual accel is not there ne more but you can feel that its not as powerful as when my actual ECU map is on,yes there is that small LAG but after that its proper hard pulling but this one is more subtle and smooth. I did get 43.3 mpg on the way home from Huddersfield yest at 60-70 :giggle: mph lol

only thing now tho is I need my Cruise putting back on it.

How is this done? and is it simple to do with VCDS?

cheers
