Blasphemy; a Jaguar...?

Featured Replies

Sorry, folks, but I have to raise this. First, the local dealer (Arnold Clark) have been awful.

I was really bitten, especially with the 20% discount, where I thought the maths just worked... A kick-in-the-teeth for Arnold Clark here; if your salesman (Stuart) had even bothered to get off his arse and call me back, there would have been a sale.

Anyways, casting the net a wee bit wider, I've come across the Jaguar XF. At list price, it's cheaper than the 3.6 Superb. And they can be pushed. So, sorry, all, but my time here seems to be limited.

Do check out the XF, and do beware of a salesguy called Stuart...

That's a shame but crappy customer service is inexcusable! Why not try another dealer? They'll have your hand off for the sale.

Having said that the XF is a lovely car.

My info is that discounts are rare and minimal on new xf's as they're selling everything they build. And that's from a Jag employee.

Don't give up on the Superb, try another dealer, Carfile or Drive the deal. I'm sure they'll be able to assist.

Arnold Clark is there for folk who buy a car like they would buy a tin of beans and not for folk who give a **** about what they drive.

yeild a little on the ultimate bargain hunt and give a friendly Skoda dealer a chance to sell you a car (and make a living!!)

Hi Skoti

Which model of XF you looking at, cant be a petrol one as they are £££££.

Friend has an XF, got it when they first came out, lovely looking car but she has had quite a few little problems, most electrical. Much less rear leg room then Superb, boot smaller and no estate option.

I made the mistake of being put off Superb by crap dealer, don't follow my lead.

Give another dealer a try. Drive the deal will help with price or give James at Allams a ring. Cheap flight from Edinburgh to London, run the car in on drive home, simples

So you could be leaving us for the Mondeo forums

Had a Jag before the Superb - servicing cost were high as were parts prices. try another dealer went into another couple before I bought mine from Wayside in Milton Keynes who have been very good.

As for Ford, still waiting for 2 dealers to call me regarding the test drive (I ordered the Superb at the begining of July!

Well. In sweden atleast The Jag is so far away from the Superbs price that i can't even glimpse it in the horizon.

Guess Jag's cheaper in UK.

I got my sunday laugh here ... Thanks

Your welcome,

I wouldn't touch Arnold Shark with a barge pole. I bought our Skodas from the local Skoda dealer here in Glasgow (Henry's Skoda). Excellent service, very friendly, and do their utmost to help. I keep going back, they are so good.

I too looked at the XF but it was significantly more expensive, and quite a bit smaller in the rear and boot, so decided against it.

Yep, can't see you picking up a Jag XF for the same price I paid for my V6 Estate!

I think the underpowered and underwhelming V6 petrol has been discontinued, so I assume you're looking at a 3.0 Diesel, which is a fine example of it's type and preferable.

We picked up two Diesel S's for 32k each 12 months ago, so I'd imagine a non-S could be 28-29k with a good haggle. As has been suggested, lovely cars and definitely a more luxurious, cosseting experience than the Superb, but also suffer from poor build quality and packaging. One of ours was replaced at six months and 6k miles due to a litany of electrical faults the dealer just couldn't remedy. Also don't seem to be wearing their miles terribly well either.

Justin.

Hard choice really, I really don't know what I'd choose myself, hmmm, tough one, perhaps something that Purrs or should I say Roars along would be my pick, take the leap cool cat

I've sent him a message in the hope of restoring from faith in customer service from Skoda retailers....

The XF has nothing to do with the Mondeo! Think you might be meaning the X-Type??

The biggest advantage the XF has over the Superb is that it is (in my opinion) a very beautiful car. I have two neighbours who have them and they waft past my drive in style most mornings. They both love their cars but both owners have had electical gremlins and one has had a gearbox strip down already. They also cannot believe how little the Superb costs to service in comparison.

there is one thing that is certain,,, . Both these Jag owners would NEVER contemplate owning a Skoda, The badge is too way down the pecking order for them.

No amount of built in equipment would sway them away from the premium badge. I would love to own one as well , but not on a Skoda budget!!

P.S., The X-type Jag (which is similarly priced to the Superb) is not a Purring cat,, It is more like a DOG.....!!

doubt it as Jaguar is no longer owned by Ford.....................but I kinda get what you mean with the XF it does look slighty mondeo like.

Personally I love the look of the XF, and given the choice between the two would pick the jaguar (and that's coming from someone who rates skoda highly)

The S-type had a mondeo gearbox and engine and was rather carp!

The XF is a truly lovely thing. I wouldn't have seen it as a natural competitor to the Superb. The Superb is a great car for a different customer imho.

Surely he is getting confused with the X-type?

I think he was. But I don't think the cars are natural competitors. Perhaps they should be, but I look for different qualities in both the Superb and XF. I would still have a 5 series over them both though, if I could afford one that is :D
