Reversing lights switch wiring

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help with a problem I've encountered with my MK1 90hp TDI.

I recently realised my reversing lights weren't working so read up on here and assumed it was either the switch faulty or wires snapped on the switch. Following a link from this forum, I've located the switch but it appears that the wires have been cut (about an inch of wires poking out of the connectors and both wires cut/snapped in the same place). I can't imagine why anyone would have done this, however it's done now so I need to repair. The only problem is that I can't locate the other end of the wires.

Does anyone know where the wires should be located in the engine bay or where they are on the wiring loom in the engine bay so I can make a repair?

Any help would be much appreciated

ooooh, good question. I have never even looked for the reversing light switch on my car. Can it be seen from above, or do I need to crawl underneath the car? If I can see it from above, I can trace the wires/take a picture for you.

I am wondering that as you can't obviously see the other end of the wires, they might have been cut short when they come out of main loom :S

The only reason I can think of for cutting the wires, is a faulty switch so you should check it.

My guess is that they are taped up somewhere close to the gearbox.

What year is the car and which engine code is it?

Hi, unsure on the engine code but it's the non PD 1.9 engine. 2003 model

The guide I followed was here

Having thought it was the switch I have bought a new one and fitted it already. Just need to wire it up now!

Thanks for the offer but you'd need to remove the battery and tray to even get near to it I think

Well in that case, I'm out! Only ever had my battery out once, and that was to change it when it died. :giggle:

It'll be under the battery for sure. I reckon they've just snapped- many VAG cars have wires that are too short- hat to fix my A3.

I had the battery and tray out and there was nothing there
