Afternoon all,

My octy is currently in the garage with about 1k worth of work needed. I can't really afford to change the car and would like to keep it to at least get some use out of the money i need to spend on it. However since its been out of warranty it hasn't been the most reliable.

All over the web there are mixed reviews about companies that offer extended warranties. Warranty Direct being the biggest supplier i think.

So are they worth it or not. Please comment on any experiences good or bad that you have had with the company.

This may help others also.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Sorry not had any experience with Warranty direct, but I was going to take out one of there policies and was speaking to a Skoda sales (person) who said why do I not take out the Skoda extended warranty ! So I got a price, and worked out just under the WD price, but they do it for 24 Months, and so it became cheaper than the two twelve months from WD .

So I took it out for the twelve months, and have claimed for a new radiator, and certainly no problems with that claim, Plus I think there is a excess with WD (not too sure) which there is not with Skoda.

Sorry I cannot remember what the price was, but a quick call will let you know the up to date price, the only thing, they were a bit keen on the service history, but once it was confirmed it was fine.

Cool,

I will certainly ask when i go to pick the car up. Not sure if i will keep it two years though. I may go for it if the 1 yr price is ok though.

Thanks

Had Warranty Direct for 3 years on my previous Audi A6.

Big plus is they cover wear & tear but not for the first 3 months.

I did pay a high price as I wanted main dealer cover. About £500 per year (ouch) but then again I had almost twice that in repairs that they covered (including mechatronic failure, new gearbox ECU + Clutch pack).

They did try to avoid paying the gearbox issue based on the old "when did it have the oil changed" query - they did however pay out after 2 weeks. :-)

Will be using them when my Octy warranty expires.

Mine was £400 to cover for absolutely every fault I have noted on this site. I consider it to be good value if the dreaded ABS issue or aircon failure occurs. Normally it is a 3 month wait for wear and tear but I had it serviced within 30 days before taking out the policy at a main dealer and so it should be covered. no problems yet but peace of mind has given me another year to see whether to keep the car beyond the 4 year point. I noally get bored but still enjoy its relatively cheap performance and load carrying capability.

I am glad you have had a good service from this company. I will certainly be going down the extended warranty route with this company or skoda themselves. I will check out what skoda offer when i pick my car up from the garage. Just a shame i didn't sort a warranty out before now.

In my experience if you have a single diagnosable fault there is no problem. However if you have a fault that requires diagnostic work to isolate the issue then you can have issues with the claim. In my case I had an ABS light appear on the dash. First diagnosis was the ABS hydraulics, this did not cure the fault so the next item to be replaced was the ABS ECU. Warranty company only paid for the first fix (even though it did not fix the problem) and I got stung for the ECU.

My car coming up to three years old, warranty direct costs a bit more than Skoda extended warranty, plus is that WD cover wear and tear items, I think if you take up WD on a fully serviced car as a follow on when the manf warranty runs out the wear and tear takes effect immediately, seems to me to be worth it even if all your ever need is the ABS replacement.

I used Warranty Direct for my Octavia.

The DMF went. The bill was around £1100 and they paid about £800. The car had about 70k on it at the time.

Then the air con condenser went at about 95k. Bill was about £1200 and they paid about £300. They would only pay for to replace the condenser, but for the parts to be warrantied by the supplier, I had to have many other parts replaced which WD would not pay for. So be warned, they cover you, but.....

They deduct a percentage off over 60k increasing with mileage. They do not pay for diagnostics either.

I was paying about £35pcm for about 2 years, so it was cheaper, but not as much as I would have liked.emoticon-0106-crying.gif

We are agents for a major warranty company (not WD) and offer their warranties with used car sales.

Usually WD have a large margin built into their premiums, so you should be able to negotiate a significant discount over their online quote by ringing their call centre and haggling. Expect to get 25-30% off their headline quote. I would expect something like an Octavia vRS to be covered for dealer repairs and W&T for £240-300 a year.

I was wondering about the cost of fault diagnosis. Not so good that its not covered.

WD said it would be £399 for a years cover for my car (dealership repairs not independant garage).

Again, i will see what skoda say and then try to haggle with WD. Also may be worth checking out some other online warranty places. On the call with the guy, there was no suggestion that they contributions they make go down in % after 60k miles??

Wonder if they have different policies...?

Mine (on the audi) covered wear & tear, all diagnostics, parts & labour.

Over 60k you have to start paying a percentage of parts, but all labour was covered.

They definitely paid all bills for diagnostics on my gearbox including collection of the car and return from the specialist in Reading (I'm in South Wales). They even allowed up to a week of hire car. That bill alone was in excess of £1,700.

They also covered parts affected by the initial fault which had subsequently failed or needed replacing as a result.

Mind you, I'm a pushy whatsit who doesn't take no for an answer.

I have heard bad things about them but mostly my experience was good.

Funnily enough had a quote from them today for £325 - main dealer cover and 20% off the original website quote (their extra care policy).
