Benefits of EGR removal and De Cat

Featured Replies

Just wondered.....My other motor is a 2002 Land Rover Discovery TD5 which I`ve just de-EGR`d and had re-mapped, Cat is being removed next and at this time , I do have a marked improvement on the economy as well as the performance.

Bearing in mid I get high 50`s out of my Octavia, would there be any benefit to doing the same to that, ie De-EGR, De-Cat, remap? Its a 2001 Octavia Ambiente 1.9 tdi (90bhp)

Any thoughts appreciated..

Andy

decat might help. It is my understanding that removing the EGR will actually reduce MPG slightly (but makes for cleaner running). Rather than a EGR delete it might be better to blank it off (if you wish to take this route), and leave the Anti-shudder valve in, so that you can prevent the engine running away should it all go wrong.....

I always thought removing/blanking EGR would slightly increase MPG as it would be a cleaner burn in the cylinders so produce slightly more power(very very slight) but still improve so use slightly less fuel and then increase exhaust emmisions a bit as not reburning some of the fumes. Might be wrong though? Ive blanked off EGR on my last 2 cars and not noticed a decrease anyway. Removing cat should increase MPG and performance.

I might be thinking about the pikey Elephant Mod instead (ref: slight MPG decrease). Eitherway, I have blanked off my EGR and Elephant Mod'd it, and have not really noticed any change in MPG (just a bit more a smelly car when stuck in traffic if a window is open  )
