Anybody still use MD (Mini Disk) Units

Featured Replies

I still have a lot of disks etc and found the sound quality (if set on the least compression) not bad at all. Does anybody still use one of the in car units from Sony.

They seem to go quiet cheap now and i still have a panasonic player - recorder to put my cd's onto ?? Am i mad to consider this ?

Don't really use them but do have a pile gathering dust.

Pioneer also did a nice six mini disc changer headunit accessory which I used to keep an eye out for on Ebay. Have since sold the head unit though. :(

I have a minidisc walkman that I use a lot- I don't get on with MP3.

It's a shame this format died due to Sony's greed over patent rights. Disc size meant you could carry loads in a jacket pocket, they couldn't get scratched either. Home stereo has CD and MD, and I still have a Sony headunit for car somewhere gathering dust.

I do like the portablity of the discs especailly in the glove box etc, i always thought the sound quality was a lot richer than MP3 and was very very close to that of the original CD (if not compressed on the MDLP format).

Thanks for the ideas.

Yep, the quality is very close to the source CD- that's why I still use them.

I still use them as well, although no longer use them in my car. I do have a Sony 6 disk MD changer for car use, paid a fortune for it but its not been used for a few years now.

Currently in front of me is a Sony Hifi MD separate that supports MDLP, that I use almost daily, I have loads of MDs, with unique content that I still play.

I have been trying to find out which sony remote commander works with the sony MDX-CA580 MD in car player, because its one of these i had intended to get, but as yet i can't seem to find bugger all on which remote wheel commander works. I just thought there was one commander for all of the sony head units.... how wrong is was, there are loads.

Still got some disks hanging around but player is in the loft. I liked the system too, shame its gone.

In japan MD and HI-MD is still very popular, there are many cool double din headunits that are dedicated to this format.

We are talking a whole range of alpine and kenwood headunits.

Do a goggle search or check ebay/yahoo auctions

The double din units are really smart, i do like them a lot and i think i will get a Sony MD head unit when one comes up .... with a remote commander because i want the wheel controls as well and trying to get a commander separately from the H/U i think could be a problem.
