Deleted user account in vista but user folders remain on disk?

Featured Replies

In order to solve a program userconfig error I yesterday deleted my user account on our home desktop running vista home premium. Although I did choose the "delete files" option, the c:\user\<username> folder still remains, and vista won't let me delete it :( which means that when I created a new account with the same username I ended up with two folders, the original and another one named <username>.dellcomputer

Any suggestions how to get rid of the old folder? I'm contemplating booting the pc from a Linux USB and try the 'rm -r' command B)

You should be able to take ownership and then delete it.

Right Click the folder and go to properties, security, advanced, untick inherit permissions, owner and change to your new username.

did you use the delete user in the profile applet, which is accessible from the Advanced tab of the System applet in Control Panel. (User Profiles).

Thanks,

from the thread I can see that it's not a foolproof process - but hey, it's Microsoft  Will make a try when I get home and se what happens.

And I have the Linux weapon as a last resort :p
