Spark plugs vRS

Featured Replies

Hello,

Time has come to replace the spark plugs due to some light misfiring at full boost so what type should I use? The car is remapped to 210-ish hp.

NGK BKR7E? NGK PFR6Q? or something else?

I`ve read that gap should be 0.028 (0.7mm) for chipped car, that is OK?

Best regards

I'd go with the BKR6E, they're cheap and work pretty well.

7 heat range is a bit overkill for a 210bhp engine, 6 is standard on the 180 engine and the 225 engine found in the TT etc.

Personally i would go with NGK BKR7E for a mapped car.

I have and they work great. And very cheap plugs.

I also have used Denso iridium IK20 and IK22 on mapped car and again work well. although you will pay a lot more for them

Put BKR7E in mine a few weeks back and runs fine and as Bowders says, they are cheap as chips.

yup Bowders is right, 7s are perfect for mild tune, i run them, about £8 for the set too!!!

TNX all, spark plugs are already ordered!

Where is the best place to get these? Is BKR7E the only reference code as I have seen them listed for specific cars with a variation BKR7E ** etc. Thanks.

Haha! you got ripped off Luca :D I got my last set for £6!!!!!

They really are a goos quality cheap plug. the only thing I would suggest is that if your car is mapped and you have a heavy right foot then you should check the gaps occasionally as they do change over time. Previously with the Bosch super 4's I went through loads of changing coilpacks etc thinking they were blown. Changed to the BKR7E's gapped down to 0.028 and no more missfiring (mines LPG as well so more prone to miss if things are not right) now when ever i get a hint of a missfire all I do is check the gaps and adjust as neccessary.

but Karl, but my came with the free bj option, so the extra £2 was worth it! :giggle:

on a serious note, they do need gapping but mine havent changed since i have had them

Just checked mine now as i had a missfire on the way home from work and the gaps had gone up a bit but it was the lack of torque that might have caused it. But all better again :D

i have had misfires this week, 3 of my 4 coilpacks on way out...

cost 95 for full set from awesome, the real pain is these are sold by ecs in the states for $79... just as well i wasnt in california 2 weeks ago eh!

Ouch :o I bought a couple of sets of second hand bolt down ones and have had no issues at all with them. So always got some spares. :D

yup ouch indeed, especially when i know they only cost $79 (about 50 quid) in the US.

Couldnt wait though for delivery.

Cleaned up my spark plugs and regapped them, they had opened up a bit

if you time it right you can get 4x PFR6Q plugs on ebay for £10

thats good, iriduims normally cost a lot more than a tenner dont they?

these are just the oem plug - think they are just platinum - however will be good for at least a few years

but if you have a modded car, then a slightly colder plug is a better option, the bk7re is perfect for this!

fair enough - mine is standard and I want an easy life thats why oem for me

another good cheap option with wide heat range is the Ford/Motorcraft AGPS071C (Ford finis number 1120834), these are good for anything from shopping to 450bhp monsters. These are favourites with the Cosworth community with big horsepower who aren't getting hoodwinked by the Iridium glitter.. They are equally suitable for 1.8T in any state of tune. Approx. £10 a set and available by walking into your nearest Ford dealer if you need some in a hurry :D

good tip, didnt know about those!
