Official from Skoda UK - 205/45/16 83W.

Featured Replies

I had noticed quite a bit of debate over whether 205/45/16 83W or V rated tyres could/should be used on the vRS, well I contacted Skoda UK who replied to me Today:

Dear (*ahem*) weezb,

I am writing further to your query of 9 February regarding the correct tyres to use on your Skoda vehicle.

I would like first of all to offer my sincere apologies for the delay in response.

I can confirm that the correct tyres (speed rating included in the profile) are as follows;

205/45/16-83-W.

These are the tyres that are supplied from the factory and as such to only ones that we the manufacturer would recommend using.

Any deviation from this could have potential insurance implications.

Please feel free to call in if you wish to discuss this further.

Kind regards

So there you go.

I will just add that 205/45/R16 87W are also fine, the 87 is the load index and it confuses some people. An 87 tyre is simply reinforced a a bit more in the side-walls.

You can also use 185/55 R15 84H on a 6J x 15 H2 - ET 43 alloy and either 205/45 R16 83W or V on a 6.5J x 16 H2 ET 42 steel spare.

So you can use the V rated tyre on the spare. The weird thing is that the permissible tyre/wheel combination in Germany is V rated for the 16 inch wheels.

I would have thought that when Skoda UK customer services were to qoute a specification, they would at least make the effort to qoute the correct spec lol.

Its not 205 45 16 83W, its 205 45 R16 83W (which is VAG optional equipment code H2J).

I am not the only forum member who has found that the [email protected] doesn't work.

E mail addresses that DO work are [email protected] and [email protected]

I took the trouble to point this out to Will Fisher, 'Executive Office' who signs off with the identical wrong address, yet he failed to take on board my well-meant suggestion to change the address, causing another forum member to complain publicly here of the problem some days later.

Both of us resorted to writing to the top man, [email protected] which seemed to get results.

Just how seriously do Skoda take customer service, when they use a dud e mail address for customer services, then fail to correct it when it is kindly pointed out to them by a customer?

Skoda seems to be becoming very complacent and sloopy - are they allowing their customer service accolade to go to their head, at our expense?

Love it :giggle:
