2005 Black Magic Fabia VRS 66k

Featured Replies

Guys, I bought this car a few months ago as it came up for sale local to me & I've wanted a VRS for ages. Since buying it I've been trying to sell my other car, and the VRS has been garaged, I've only used it a couple of times.

When I bought it at 66k miles it had not had it's cam belt done, so as soon as I got it home, she was booked in for a full service and cam belt replacement at my local sports performance garage. This was at a cost of over £412.

The only advisories from that full service was play in the lower wishbone bushes. I have since had a set of power flex bushes put on her at the same sports performance garage as well as a new ball joint, and a pipercross panel filter. Whilst in the garage, I had all 4 of the doors sealed with shell tixophalte sealant, as I had read about the common door leak problem & although no evidence of a leak I thought betterr safe than sorry. The car was left at the garage for the sealant to fully dry and then tested with hoses, and it was deemed a total success. This was at a total cost of just over £300.

Now for the sad part.. Since advertising my other car for sale, the engine management light has come on (not in the fabia) it's been in and out the garage several times & they are unable to find the fault. At the moment it seems it may be a fault in the wiring but they cannot be certain. Of course in the meantime I can't sell it until it's fixed and all of this is costing me time and money & I need to pay my parents back.

I've now got to the point where I'm considering cutting my loses and selling my fabia for now while I try and rectify the problem in my vw, as i have no idea how long its going to take to fix or how much its going to cost ;(

So this advert is to see if there's any interest in my furby, here's her vital stats;

Black magic

2005 with 66k on the clock.

FSH 6 stamps in her service book and some receipts.

3 owners from new (including me) the last owner had her for 2 years as a second car to his work van & couldn't justify keeping her.

Cruise control & air conditioning

Just been serviced 3 weeks ago, new cam belt, power flex bushes, pipercross panel filter, all doors sealed, all receipts kept as proof at a cost of over £700.

MOT and tax until end of April 2011.

2 brand new tyres on the front, both rear tyres have 5mm so thousands & thousands of miles to go.

Rear windows are tinted.

Colour coded black magic grille

Mechanically you will not find a more honest car, she drives as smooth as when she came off the forecourt. She has been looked over from the ground up when I first bought her in preparation for me using her as my everyday vehicle.

Interior could do with a vax as it's a little grubby, I might try and do this before I sell her if I get chance.

Her body work is good, no dents, not been in any accidents.

Only bad bit is she has a scratch and a stone chip on her bonnet near the skoda badge which if you are looking for perfection you will want to have the bonnet resprayed, something I had planned to do, but sadly doesn't look like I will get chance.

I had big plans for this car, I was looking to upgrade the brakes, install a strut brace and rear arb etc. Sadly after collecting my vw from the garage today for the 4th time in the same number of weeks and the fault still not being fixed I am at a loss as to what to do and with my parents out of pocket until I sell, I think it's only right that I get them their money back and try again once I'm in a better position.

will post some pictures eventually but waiting for my colour coded grille to arrive so that I can fit it.

Looking to get back what I've paid for it, so £5,700 cash. If anyones interested in seeing her I'm based in Gloucestershire near to junc 13 or 14 of the M5 motorway.

Thanks for looking

is there any possible chance you could meet me at heysham tomorrow as i am over on the boat from the isle off man. thanks dan

Iomfabia I don't mean to be rude, but perhaps I didn't make it clear in my last post. I won't be collecting you from the ferry port (200 miles away) at the weekend, or any day. This car will sell itself & anyone wanting to come see it will come to my place :) sorry 

Lol I still haven't worked out if this was a joke or not :o as much as I need/want to sell my furby, I'm not *that desperate :smirk:

If it's easier for anyone that's interested, I don't mind meeting them in Bristol as I'm down there fairly often also

I was staggered when I read the comments. :o

I mean, come on. He's asking you to drive all the way up to Heysham and meet him off the ferry for a 'possible' sale?

How were you supposed to get home if he bought it too btw?

Now don't YOU take this the wrong way, but I think you may be asking a tad too much for your vRS.

Mines the same age, albeit with a higher mileage, and it's realistically worth about £4~4.5k tops.

Check the value with your mileage on the free 'What Car' valuation site, and if I'm wrong I will wholeheartedly apologise.

On saying that, if someone is willing to pay for a nice clean car then they will

I think the price is about right, it's not often you can pick up a car that's literally just been fully serviced, had all it's advisories taken care of & decent upgrades made, as well as having the doors properly sealed up & cambelt just done.. If I could buy this same car in this same scenario in a couple of months (given time to fix & sell my vw) I Hand on heart would :)

Good luck to you then, and I hope you get what you're asking for it.

They say that a car is always worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Cracking car btw. Why don't you sell the VW instead?

Are you for real chum?

'not a real issue' picking you up from the ferry port.. It wudnt be if I lived nearby, however 3hrs & 200miles each way is kinda excessive. Anyway, glad you've done a deal now.

Hi im from libya!

Will u meet me at the border?

Lol

Only joking good luck with sale seems a pretty flawless car! Get some pics up

Lol! I could meet you in Egypt if that's any easier! Once on rest days will take some pics, colour coded grille now here, so will put that on & give her a fresh wash/wax. Expect pics next weekend. She honestly is very much up together, like I said I'm only selling cuz my lupo gti has decided to get an electrical fault & it's costing me lots to have it investigated before I can sell her :(

If you're gonna loose money on selling this car you may do better to take a loss on th Lupo, and sell it with the fault. Perhaps the discount on the Lupo won't be any worse than the loss on the Fabia plus the cost of the fix if you see what I mean. Maybe its worth doing the sums. Good luck either way.

Thanks for the advice, I've been doing a lot of number crunching. Thing is I kinda need to get some money back asap as I loaned it from my parents & I don't know how long it's gonna take to find out what's wrong with my other car. Skodas good to go, no need to spend any money on it for sale so I could then take my time trying to sort vw out. I wudnt buy a car which had the engine management light on so I can't imagine how much people wud knock me down on price. I'd rather fix it & sell it perfect because it's a rare car :)

whats the electrical fault?

  • Author

Not sure.. The fault codes point to the camshaft actuator timing & circuit type problem (I don't have the exact Reading here with me) so it's had the cam adjustment sensor changed, a new actuator, a full engine flush & oil change & it's cam belt checked, timing of all belts are fine. Everything is perfect, no problems with any of that. So my mechanic thinks it's something electrical ie. A wiring fault. It's dragging on a bit now :(

Guys, just to update, I'm now back at work for a week, so once back on rest days I will get some pictures up after I've had chance to wash & wax the furby. I'll include pictures of the bonnet & the service book/receipts etc. Will probably start a fresh thread as this ones looking a bit busy with the 'amusing' comments it's attracted lol :giggle: cheers guys
