Fitting Costs

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just a quickie, to see if anyone can help me - yet again:

Was looking to add a few accessories, courtesy of my expected ex-gratia payment from Skoda UK, when I finally collect my SM around 11 April.

The prices for what I was looking at seem reasonably competive from the dealer who is supplying my vehicle, BUT when I asked how much to fit front and rear mudflaps I was quoted £50 a couple of days ago but today I was sent another e-mail which is now quoting £80 + VAT = £96.00.

The £50 quote seemed just about reasonable, allowing for probable labour costs in London, BUT the latest quote seems a tad expensive to me..... but..... I wondered what other people thought, before I commit one way or the other?

They're very easy to fit but you will need a screwdriver with torx head but these are easily come by from car accessory or hardware shops.

Buy a set and fit them yourself.

Good luck

At London prices I bet they are generally charging something near £100/hour. So if the "book" says that is how long they take to fit then that is the price they will charge, even if it only takes them half the time.

Personally I would get them to supply only. They aren't difficult to do.

I got mine fitted FoC when they had to take the bumper off to do the rear parking sensor!

Thanks for the info guys.....I was wondering if there was some complication in the actual fitting, but appears not, so I will pick them up at a later date and do the job myself - probably get them through Allams mailorder, with a few other goodies when I see what's what.

Thats exactly what I did. Allams also had a 10% discount code for Briskoda members.

Fitted my own front and rear, took me about 40 mins and didn't even have to take the wheels off. Just use the relevant torx head with a flat ratchet spanner.

The only trick is to be careful NOT to overtorque the screws when you put them on. The screws go into so rather soft gnk/plugs/whatever, so be careful. The fitting instructions are on a sheet in the plastic bag the flaps are delivered in.

Marlborough quoted me £108 for half an hour's work to do this. When I asked if their labour rate is really £216 an hour they quickly quoted £75 at which I also just laughed. In the end they fitted them for me for free since they had the car for 3 hours on day one to get the fuel flap to open... result!!!

If you order them through us on www.amsparts.co.uk use the offer code leafams10 for a 10% discount.

Whilst I think of it if there is anything else you'd like to order and you can't find it on the site please let me know and I'll get it added.

I paid £100 for supply and fit the full set to mine at the end of January, so it seems your original quote of £50 fitting was about right. I think, with the benefit of hindsight, keeping the £50 in my pocket and fitting them myself would have been the best option, but everything was all shiney and new :)

Can mudflaps be fitted if you have park assist?.

Can mudflaps be fitted if you have park assist?.

Yes. I have both.

Just not with the wheel arch extensions.

To my mind any small must have accessories such as mudflaps & floor mats along with fuel etc. are the type of things to haggle into the initial deal prior to signing up to a new car purchase.

Couldn't even haggle a litre of engine oil from my dealer !! I'm debating mud flaps. If I decide to get them I'll buy them myself - perhaps fit them myself - but if not I'll get the local mechanic who lives / works across the field from me to fit them. I'll seriously offer to pay him but he owes me many mutual favours from when he serviced my out of warranty cars that I'm sure he'll do it for free. Definitely won't be paying £50+ fitting charges.

Nor me. Especially considering the appalling effect they have on fuel consumption...

Genuine Skoda rear mudflaps off Flea Bay for £22 and 20 mins to fit without taking the wheels off - a no brainer for me

Rallyflaps!they're airbrakes. :D

Thanks Billun777 for the photos, I twigged the extra add on's. What are the Yokohamas like? looks like much better tread pattern than the Dunlops which came as standard on my 17" rims. Did you have them when the snow was about?

I'll accept that :giggle::rofl:

..... however, I designed them to reduce the amount of crud that gets up onto the side on my Yeti from the front, and to reduce the amount of spray that get thrown backwards towards following traffic.

PS> I know that they will create (a degree) of extra drag but its me that pays the fuel bill!

Sadly I've not had the opportunity to use my Yokos in any snow, nor even much frost. :( only in generally chilly weather.

Overall they seem pretty reasonable for grip etc. and excellent at clearing water, judging by the plume of spray I leave behind me. They are however a degree 'soft' (sidewall flexibility) when pressing on and cornering briskly but then I guess that is to be expected with 'winter tyres'. Must get my summer tyres fitted soon .....

That looks a really good idea, the Skoda mudflaps have very little effect.
