Electrical advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am a new member of the club and need help with a couple of electrical problems that have arisin.

The first is the light in the stereo system was blinking but has now gone out and at the same time the electric windows have stopped working? As I am new to Skoda I dont where anything is with regard to electrics in the car or know anything about them and and hope you can help this Scottish newbie.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

****.

Has the switch lighting gone out too? e.g. the switch lighting on the driver armrest panel.

For the windows, have you checked fuses F37 and F38?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have just checked and the lights are on in the window control panel on the arm rest.

I will check these fuses but where do I find them on my Octavia estate?

Any idea about the radio/stereo light or is this in one of the number fuses quoted above?

Cheers,

The radio lights share a feed with the armrest switch lighting (amongst other things), so if that is OK then it is most likely the backlight in the radio has failed.

The fuses are located behind the driver side dashboard end panel (you need to open the door to see it).

If you mean the red flashing light on the stereo, it is a security feature to show that the radio is "alarmed" The light can be turned on and off through the radio menu. It only comes with the ignition off and the doors closed and locked.

The door also has a flashing red light next to the door push-button. This activates under the same conditions.

If the door light is not flashing with the doors locked, you may have a (common) problem with the microswitch in the door that gives a "door locked" signal to the convenience system. Other causes are water ingress into the door control card (in the door) and damaged insulation on the wires that run from the door to the car through the crinkly rubber tube you can see when you open the door. Water can also affect the door window lifts.

Hope this helps,

Mike

+1 for above

check your door led - it should be off when unlocked, and blink repeatedly when locked

anything otherwise is a fault - most likely being water ingress into door connector, expensive to fix if you let it linger

Yes I think you are correct as the LED when locked is not blinking. I have checked all fuses and they seem to be OK Is this a main dealer fix or should a local garage or auto electrician be able to fix?

Can you use the key to lock doors rather than the fob and I guess if you can the car would only be locked and not alarmed?

you really need to get into the door - you will need a replacement door seal

clean up and waterproof the connection to the window motor for starters, if this does nto cure it you are talking £££

eventually this fault will cause your car to unlock overnight and put the windows down - not ideal!!!

if that is the case you would want to get an auto electrician to advise
