Can you put 195/45/16 on standard vrs 16" alloys.

Featured Replies

I may be tight but I can get 4 x Toyo t1r tyres 195/45/16 nearly £100 cheaper than 4 x 205/45/16.

Sooooooo I'm wondering can I get them on the alloys and would they look silly???

What you think??

Surely a bit of stretch won't harm. Any pic's?

Here's some on ebay a lot cheaper to.195/45/16

205/45/16

As asked a while ago by another member, yes you can.

Not even a stretch as the standard tyres are a bit wide anyhow.

Can I still drive it how I like to drive it with narrower tyres on???

Eg. Slower round corners etc??

I very much doubt you will notice the difference.

Would it not slightly (very) alter the rolling radius?

I ended up getting into a debate with VW over this on another car and one of their technical guys (from VW, not a dealer) told me it could affect the ABS. However, others say the ABS will be unaffected if all the tyres are the same size.

Anyway, my tuppence worth is go with 205s. Strictly speaking putting 195s on the car is a mod to the manufacturer's spec so you should tell your insurer - this would increase your premium and eat into (or possibly negate) any saving on the tyres.

I ran 195/45/16's on standard wheels, I ran them on my pink steelies, and I'm running them on my Audi TT Speedlines, and I've never experienced a problem. I can't run 205's as it scrubs on the back.

195's it is then!!

Use the calculator I found and you'll find the difference in speed......

The difference in radius is minimul, wouldn't effect the abs.

The ABS will only throw errors out if the rolling diameter on the wheels is different, as long as you keep them all the same and you could run rollerskate wheels :)
