Towbars

Featured Replies

I'll be taking delivery of my 1.8TSI DSG hatchback shortly (build week 14), I hope.

Has anybody advice upon the choice of towbar? I have in mind the extent of body cutout and max tow ball load. Also has anybody advice on towing with the DSG box

I have a Westfalia detachable tow bar and hidden electrics. Fitted for half the money Skoda are asking.

The bodywork is not cut out. The tow bar fits into the spare wheel storage when not in use.

I contacted a few garages in UK and NI about the Westfalia detachable tow bar fitted with proper electrics and they all were approx £450.

Philpix what towbar did you fit and where, how did you manage to get it half price of the skoda one.

I have a Witter detatchable towbar on mine and towed for the first time (with this car) at the weekend. It was a dream, no hassle, the DSG box changed as I would expect with no drama. The low speed moving was slighty jumpy. The fuel consumption was a little lower than with my old mk1, but the caravan site was a little more out of the way. Overall a very relaxing drive

I have a fixed Westfalia fitted to my Superb Estate - unobtrusive, doesn't interfere with reversing sensors - about £250 fitted with single electrics.

North West Towbars in Stockport. Westfalia detachable with hidden pivoting electrics £300 including fitting.

Tow bar fits into the spare wheel centre foam insert when not in use. The electrics swing up out of sight.

Nice setup you got there Phil

Presume that your car did come with any towbar prep from the factory?

No factory prep at all.

Looking a bit grubby there Phil. ;)

Are those full or single electrics out of interest? I got the factory fitted Skoda towbar with single electrics, didn't think I'd need more.

Just went for single. I only need the hitch for my bike carrier. I don't intend taking up caravaning. EVER!

Do you know if your electrics are hooked up to the canbus? I like the look of the Westfalia setup and have had a similar towbar on a previous Audi, although I'm a bit wary of letting other loose on the wiring loom in my Superb... I've seen some pretty nasty "choc-block" connections in the past.
