Top brake light - half lit up?

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2000 skoda fabia is having some problems.

The brake lights dont work on the side, but the top spoiler light is lit up by about 2 led bulbs on each side when the lights are on, but the spoiler brake light gets alot brighter when i press the brake.

is the spoiler light being lit up at the sides a sign of somthing being wrong.

Thanks.

Check your brake light bulbs

Have you uprated the normal bulbs to led??

Because they tend to hold a charge and flicker and look as if they're slightly on.

i've just bought the car 2 days ago, but i asume they're standard bulbs, when i say led, i mean for the spoiler light, it looks like about 10 led bulbs going along in a line at the top of the boot.

The right bulb is broken but the left seems fine, i will replace them both tomorrow anyway, but would that cause the problem of the top light staying on at the sides

Yes, it can cause that. Seeing as neither of your brake lights work you should change them anyway.

Make sure they are the correct bulbs for that car.

Sounds obvious but the wrong bulb can make all the lights act funny.

Ever seen a car that has flashing brake lights when indicating?

Due to wrong bulbs.

Eg. Side light size bulb in brake light socket.

Also don't forget some bulbs come with side light and brake light in one bulb.

Safe bet to change both bulbs with ones suited for your car.

If that doesn't work, change top brake light bulb. (Should be one bulb. The lens gives affect of loads of bulbs but should be just the one)

It should say the correct bulb type in the handbook as some have offset pins and differant wattages, also does it say on the lampholder which bulb fits ? some do. it sounds as though you just have a few bulbs out, it would be the first thing to check. cheers - Stuart

Well now i feel abit stupid not replacing the bulbs in the first place!

but anyway, i went to halfords and they told me which bulbs i needed, fitted one in both sides and now problem solved. The top light is either on, and then on very bright with the brake, or off... and the brake lights work as they should. Also the glow plug light has stopped flashing on the dash :)

so thanks for all your replies and sorry for making a stupid thread!

im gona say this is also a stupid question but... how many reverse lights does the fabia have, when i was checking all the lights, only the left light lit up when it was put in reverse.

Thanks.

Mine has reversing lights on both sides (i'm 90% sure it does, don't reverse at myself too often though :))
