standard vrs tsi fl engine note

Featured Replies

hi guys,

i have been trying to find a video on the net of a standard vrs pertol engine note. can anyone point me to one at all on the net? or maybe you guys have any vids?

cheers

Its very unobtrusive in standard form, bit of a sewing machine really.

Youtube won't really give you much idea i think - it'll be very dependent on the quality of the mic and the file..

It sounds just like any other 2.0T engine from vag - same as a golf or audi or seat etc.

so the standard sound not that loud then? like a bit of a grunt. only thing is adding something to make it have more of a grunt will affect the warranty will it not?

cheers

IMHO Its fairly throaty past 5000rpm...but I'm quite happy with it being quiet when cruising. When I pass them I always think people driving down the motorway with a big can droning away must be mad, but each to their own of course.

yeah i would rather it was not noisey but i like a bit of a grunt back when you hit certain revs. so if that is the case then cool.

cheers

I've just ordered a Miltek cat back non resonated lol should be fun.

you'll love it for normal driving, sounds awsome but on the motorway it's very droney but past 4.5k revs the drone goes away and it sounds superb!. I drive a lot on the motorway so I've had to fit the Miltek centre box as driving at nearly 5k revs is not very economical!! ;)

Let me know what you think about the Non-Res when you have it fitted.

Same engine, but different exhaust systems used.

The Mk6 GTI for example, sounds fruitier and louder.

In Skoda form its fairly quiet and unobtrusive. As said, does have a harder edge to it further up the rev range.

I really like the standard tone, it has a purposeful grumble on tick-over, nice and peaceful when plodding along and has enough growl when pressing on.

Think my days of exhaust-modding are over, had a decat on my old VTR that sat right under the gear lever and BOOMED at 3krpm, right at 70 on the m'way!

Never say never. You'd be surprised what a decent exhaust place can deliver on a custom system :)

need to get someone to post one up of the standard grumble and when pressin on, be nice to hear.

Problem is, as said above, whatever recording equipment you use will likely influence the sound, so you won't get a faithful reproduction, think you're just going to have to be patient on this one and wait for the real thing!
