Everything's happening at once!

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I bought an 06 Fabia VRS about a month ago with 56k miles on it and a full service history (so I was told... turned out to be a lie! Is there any sort of action I can take against the dealership that sold me the car since they said it had a full history?)

So I was driving the other day and the abs light and the hand brake light both flashed on and there was 3 beeps then on another occasion the PAS light came on and the steering became very heavy (went away when I turned the car off and turned it on).

When I bought the car the dealer said that he had just sent the car away to get the steering fixed and that it was very expensive, thankfully though I still have 2 months warranty left! I'm just wondering have I bought a dog... is there a solution to fix these problems premaritally before my warranty expires?

Also has anyone ever experienced laquer peeling off the paint on the doors on a car this young? Also I've noticed a small bubble of rust on the boot. I've never had rust on a car this young.. seems kinda odd. I'm a bit wary of the car :/ I absolutely love the wee car but there seems to be a good few issues I wasn't expecting.

This is a bit long winded I know but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Matt.

If I was told it had full service history, I would want to see the service book before I parted with my cash, same any other documentation for the car. As for other problems you can now test out the dealers warranty and ask them to fix the problems. I assume it is not a main dealer you bought the car from in which case it's not so easy to get them to honour the warranty, they usually only cver major mechanicals, engine gearbox etc. You can always chance your arm and ask the dealer to take the car back with refund. Don't be rude or shout at the dealer but be firm and remind him of his previous assurances. Good luck.

As a retail seller (as opposed to private) they have a duty under the sales of goods act to be responsible for any problems that develop within 6 months from the point of sale that may be deemed to have been present at the time of sale (though not necessarily evident!)

Have a search on Honest John's website and look for details of the liability that a retail seller has for goods that need to be fit for purpose.

Hope that helps :)

Ask for a HPI check mate.

That sounds like its been in an accedent ECU acting like that.

If you have a copy of the original advert for it stating FSH then he dosent have a leg to stand on, as for the Warranty we recently had a bit of torouble with one of these 3rd prty dealer warrntys, could not pick up on a failed DMF and dieing battery.

Take it to an indy/Skoda to asses the damage get a report and take it back to them with the report. and tell them to fix everything, then back to your dealer to check they have done it.

Simples

New battery may well cure some of those problems.

That's what I'd try first. Even on a 06 plate the battery

will be about 5 years old presuming it hasn't already been

changed at some point. That's a fair lifespan for a battery

particularly in a diesel car. Replacement should be around

60 - 90 quid depending where you get it from. I recommend

TAYNA for batteries, bought a couple off them and was very impressed

by price and service.
