PROFLOW exhaust, any good? anyone got one?

Featured Replies

Sounds like something made to suit rather than off the shelf , bit like Longlife

Hi, looking at getting a cat back stainless steel exhaust system and these look cheap! possibly too cheap?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170557663445&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Has anyone had any experience with these or know of them?

I know you can get milltek and piper system which are good but would just like to see if these are worth a shot?.

Cheers

Chris.

Just out of interest mate, what is your reason for going for the cat back system? Do you already have the downpipe/sports cat?

Also factor in fitting costs.

For reference, my 'decat'-back Pipewerx was £375 all-in. Custom-made and designed to suit.

No downpipe/sports cat yet, going to have to do this one in stages due to lack of play spends. Thought I would get the cat back sorted and then in a month or so, look at the good down pipe and sports cat.

I like the idea you can choose how loud you want it with 3 options ! Also the tips look as good to me as Miltek, in fact 2 of them look just like the ones Miltek offer giving an OE look.

Just so you know, the cat back part of the exhaust will offer you absolutely nothing if you are after performance, unless you are fitting it because you don't like your current tail pipes or you want more noise, my advice would be don't bother. Save you pennies for the down pipe and sport cat/decat, with the addition of an good intake and the right map to accompany these you will see figures of 260 bhp and not far off 300 lb/ft of torque. EVOMs intake already on, new version D divert valve fitted , BSH catch can coming and already had a trail run with a Shark stage 1 ;) :p

Stop wasting your time worrying about cat backs, get a decent dp & sport cat and get a shark stage 2 on the thing! :moon: :giggle:

Agreed. Downpipe and hpfp + stage 3

Dv= no gain

Catch can= no gain

Cat back= no gain apparently.

Agree with the fact that if your after performance then dp and decat, but have to be honest thats hell of a reasonable price for the cat back and im liking a few of those tailpipe designs.

Not a huge fan of the standard twin round really, but again as above i will be leaving the cat back and replacing the restrictive bits :)

DV= prep for running good map

Catch can= stops cr@p getting back to the turbo

Cat back= cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus all of them are mods and mods are always good B)

Well, I took the gamble and puchased the PROFLOW cat back stainless steal exhaust system! got it fitted at a place in Stourbridge called LTC tyre and exhausts and what more can I say than, two big thumbs up   excellent quality kit, fitted by some vey helpful and nice guys.

Where else can you get custom made/ not off the shelf catback ss exhaust for £210 FITTED!!! They build it there and then, let you pick the sound (mine has a lovely burble and then note when you press the loud peddle) and also a good tailpipe from a big selection, they even get you involved when it comes to setting the final position of the tailpipe.

The car now feels definately quicker in mid range

I'll get some pics up in the next couple of days.

Any pics on this and was it 2.5" pipe?

Longlife made up my swappable de-cat - they were superb :)

Tbh I'm looking at the 3" Jetex again now but have asked longlife for a quote.

Cheeky feckers are using a picture of it on my car, for there advertising without asking me!

Looks bigger in the flesh for some reason, I think its because you can not really much of the tail pipe or the back box.

Still really happy with this, £210 I paid fitted with a lifetime guarantee, I will get a good de-cat added soon but just in the process of fitting my Seat Cupra 354mm front brakes

Ahh that's yours, looks ok. I am tempted by the Jetex but it is a whopping 3" bore so I'm a little worried how it will sound. Was yours 2.5"?

Yep 2.5" nice little burble on tick over and then a good growl under load but not too loud and not "look at me, I have a big exhaust, can you hear me before you see me?"

I went for the single tail pipe but they do good twin's.

I would like to re-iterate VRSserious remarks on this post about LTC. They are sound guys and I watched them fit my catback proflow system! It's a great quality system and is lovely and stealth as it doesn`t make too much noise. They weld it together for you there and then + fit it. Price of system and fitting is £200 all in!!

Food for thought...If the Catback makes no difference then why even bother with a Milltek when you can get a system for this price!!?? Then just install a decat! I went for this because my stock exhaust was blowing and a stainless system is cheaper than going for the original stock.

But A++ for the guys at LTC, very helpful and really know their stuff when it comes to exhausts!!

Just for the records if anyone else has this question...does stepping up from 57mm stock to 63.5mm make any difference to performance???, in a word..NO!,unless you are running 300bhp+ and even then the gains are negligible!!

Reason I know this I told the guys at LTC I wanted 63.5mm Diameter system same as the Milltek system and I told the guy what my plans were for tuning, the guy said to me it really makes no difference stepping upto that diameter on the catback for this car! The stock exhaust already flows plenty well enough for the engine and K03s Turbo! The stock system can take stage 2 mapping and make the same BHP figures you would get from fitting an expensive Milltek system on. So why even bother paying for Milltek, unless you just want the sound and the hey look I`m a boy racer, lol?? because thats all you really get!

It does make me wonder sometimes whether Milltek and the bigger bore systems are just all a big gimmick to try and justify the crazy price they ask!  The old saying you get what you pay for doesn`t always ring true! If people believe or are led to believe a brand is better they will simply pay the price, no questions asked.

Cheers,

Samuel

It's like comparing a skoda to a VW. Basically as good but cost a few thousand less!

Just a quick follow-up for people.

The exhaust has been perfect, had it two years now, no cracks, and the welding is still spot-on, plus still like to drive the car without the stereo on and just listen to rumble  . Had the motor into a garage for uprated suspension fitting and both mechanic's commented on how well it sounded.

  • 1 year later...

DON'T DO IT! You will be lucky if you read this before getting it done.I was charged £380 for mine (What was not advertised) But I really wanted it done so paid the extra £80 as I was there. 4 hours later I got my car back it sounded nice. I took it back on the motorway.Got home & noticed they damaged my Flexi pipes putting the new exhaust system on. Brought this up with them & they played silly like they did not know nothing. Which I know was fine before as I looked at it with my local garage the day before. Long story short they did not fix it for free & spent around £100 getting it fixed.

£ months went buy & all sorts of noise like rattles, metal on metal clashing. Noticed power loss & then holes appearing in the steel work. Eventually some time later the whole bloody exhaust fallen off. I was gob smacked. I'll try to find pics. They have not done nothing no repair or refund . They make up stupid excuses to avoid repairing it for free.

Do not get sucked in by their false promise for a lifetime guaranty. The fact of the matter is LTC Tyres & Exhaust who supplies these Proflow parts have not been around for many years compared to real, professional companies out there with real skill, expertise & quality. They are just a family run business.

All smiles when they take your money & don't want to know you after that.

If still in any doubt look at my pics of their Powerflow product:
