Sunroof and Roof Bars

Featured Replies

My Yeti has a sunroof. When I go on holiday to the coast I need to put my beach fishing rods on the roof as they are too long (8ft. tip on one of them) to fit inside the car, so I obviously need some roof bars (catalogue no:- LAS630001) to put them on. My query is; as the sunroof opens onto the top of the roof rather than under it in the traditional way, will fitting the roof bars impede the opening of it??? :S :S

Has anyone come across this given the rarity of sun roofs on Yetis? My local Skoda garage don't know.

I know this might seem like a bit of a numpty question, but I don't particularly want to load up the roof and then find the sunroof gets stuck on the load as I go to open it.

If the roof bars are anything like mine you have around 6inchs of clearance between the roof and the bottom of the bars. If the worst comes to the worst then you can just leave the sunroof shut!

Well the roofbars will be at least as high as the top of the roofrails (and probably an inch or so higher). Does the open sunroof project above the roofrails? Can you control the amount it opens (rather than just have it open or closed)? Will the edge of the open sunroof be that close to the roofbars anyway??

900000 has both a sunroof and roofers. I'm sure somewhere he has posted pictures, but as mentioned above, the roof bars are on top of the roof rails so I'm certain that there is no clash. Skoda would be really daft if they designed a car with roof rails and roof bars and a sunroof and it hit.....car not fit for purpose etc....

They won't hit. I delivered a Yeti to a customer with both and we opened the sunroof on handover, I didn't even think to give it a second thought about clearance. Thankfully there is no problem!

I fitted Thule aero roofbars last week, no problem with clearance to panoramoc roof, either tilted or part/fully opened. Front bar I have fixed at the forwardmost point of the three screws to the inside face of the roof rails (therefore approx half-way along the sliding portion of roof) and the rearmost is fixed between the second & third screws to the inner face of the rails (almost at the limit of the fixed rear roof panel).

Happy motoring

I fitted my Skoda roof bars yesterday and they sit on the top of the roof rails and not inline or under. So if the sunroof operates to a level lower than the top of the roof rails then no problem. I am sure it does as it would get ripped off by the airflow at speed otherwise.

I'm slowly catching up with all the threads.

No issue with roof bars and the sunroof. The bars are quite a bit higher than the top of the open sunroof - and I have genuine Škoda bars. Just remember to only use T-bar accessories for your roof bars and don't use clamps with parts protruding BELOW the bars. But even with clamps I suspect there will be enough clearance. In this picture the roof is open and you can see the bars. I have not taken specific pics of the actual clearance or measured it. I will do so in due course.

I can confirm that even with clamps there is no problem with the sunroof open. Skoda bars, Thule clamps/roofbox that is.

Thanks for all your replies chaps, particularly "90000" for the picture. I've ordered some genuine Skoda bars. Sorted................ :):)
