What have you been doing today? Polishing one out!

Featured Replies

Now, as all you black vRS owners know its a right royal pain in the ass keeping the car clean but when it is clean it is fantastic!

My car has a 144k paintjob so it was wearing a little rough and rugged and since the day I have had this car it has bothered. So today i have taken the plunge and I have decided to rotary polish it. It has taken two days todo but was well worth it!

Day one:

Pre-soak car with hot water and soap in tough areas

Clean wheels and engine bay

Power wash car

2 bucket method clean

Power wash off

Quick detail/claybar

Start on bonnet and offside wing

Day two:

Polish the rest of the car

quick detail to remove polish dust and wax prep

Wax

Total spend £75

I only used a black hexalogic pad and 3M polishes so I haven't gotten rid of all the swirls but I didn't really want that. If it was show shine ready then I would be nervous every time I saw a scratch. In some photos there is a bit of dust left over but that is all gone now.

Next job: black off bump strips.

Good result with just a black pad, what wax is it wearing?

Oh and I'd recommend Gtechniq C4 or CarPro C-Quartz PERL for the bump strips

Cheers :). I thought that as well! Very suprised by it but I could feel its limitations as a pad. I so wish I hadn't cheaped out and bought the set.

Does that pull/disolve the polish or does it just cover it?

I think I may respary them black though because they are grey atm.

It is wearing colinite marq de elegance. It is well worth it! You have to remove it quickish though. I put it on and went to have my coffee, by the time I came back it was hard as stone!
