Cambelt change?

Featured Replies

My mother's 6 year old Fabia has recently had a service and the garage have advised her to have the cambelt changed soon (£260), even though it's done <15,000 miles. I realise cambelts have the potential to go anytime, but with a very low mileage car and an owner who doesn't give the car a hard time, is it really a necessity at this time?

Would appreciate your comments.

It goes on both age and mileage, the materials in the cambelt can deteriorate over time. Also £260 for piece of mind is worth it, you don't want a repair bill for ££££'s when it goes wrong.

Thanks

As above, if it's still on the original then 6 years old I'd be looking at changing it tbh

Thanks for the advice David & Matt.

Yep at 6 years old I'd change the cambelt and water pump as a priority, regardless of mileage. Doesn't hurt to have the coolant refreshed as a result either.
