Wing Mirror...

Featured Replies

One of my wing mirrors has been broken off... :'(

Unfortunately it looks like I will need the whole wing mirror, plus the body colour surround (which I assume comes primed so will need to be sprayed). Fortunately the glass isn't broken, but that's probably the cheapest part knowing my luck.

I will obviously speak to Skoda about this as well, but my local ones parts department isn't open until Monday and I want to be prepared for what they are likely to charge, any ideas anyone?

Also what's the best way to go about removing the old one and fitting a new one?

Many thanks for your help, as always! :D

I think a new one is in triple digits all in, sorry.

Where was it done? Were you there?

I knew someone would ask that. OK, I'll put my hands up, I broke it when I backed out the garage... I don't have a good temper at the best of times and I was pretty annoyed to say the least, even though it was my fault the car almost got a kicking, but it wouldn't have made the situation any better, so I managed to resist myself.

In a previous car I have had a wing mirror broken while it was parked up on a road and I was furious, at least I only have myself to blame this time. Last time it was quite cheap because it was just the mirror glass which was about £5 and the wing mirror which I think was about £25. I have a feeling that the spraying on the body colour part is going to cost me the most.

I thought they just bent forwards and backwards when they get hit, obviously they must only bend the one way on the fabia...

You can get second hand complete mirrors on Ebay often at a reasonable price. The plastic bits where they meet the body are usually just black matt plastic (same as underside of mirror). I assume therefore you have a black car if you thought this part was painted black? On Ebay, you can go hunting for one with scratches etc in the wrong colour as you can spray it black easy enough with a rattle can. I have sprayed my complete mirrors black metallic, but that was some effort as that matt black plastic needs sanding, priming, etc.

No, unfortunately my car is grey and I thought the part would come primed, usually when it's primed it's white I believe. They probably still do a spray can in my colour, but I don't think I could trust myself to get a good finish. I wouldn't mind losing the body colour insert and just having plain black plastic, but then I would have to repeat this on the other side.

ah - you mean the cover that the glass kind of sits inside, not the bit which sits flush to the car when bolted in position. I got the wrong end of the stick. Wouldn't be too hard to use grey primer & paint from Halfords. :)

Mine in all-black (black metallic, same as skoda)

Came red, so sanded down and primed

Done this! Crashing into the cast iron guttering down pipe reversing down to the garage. Done it all both this, and my last car.

Unfortunately I think I need both bits as the black plastic bit that is flush with the car has smashed as well as the body colour plastic bit. The mirror glass isn't broken so I'm hoping to be able to reuse that if none of the clips are broken, does anyone know how many there should be?

You've done a great job spraying yours, may go that route depending on what skoda quote for a spray. How much did all the bits cost to get it sprayed? Sand paper, primer, paint, lacquer etc?

If it's a manual mirror-ebay no 400204940604
