DSG Hestiation Problem Solved

Featured Replies

I started a thread a while back on the DSG gearbox hesitation on how there was a slight deley in setting off from a stand in "D" mode as the revs were slow to rise backup to 800rpm from 700rpm before the car would pull away. Well I think it may have been cured with a software update

When in "D" mode, foot on the brake the revs drop from 800 to 700 revs, now foot off the brake and the revs rise in an instant even before you can get your foot on the go peddle. then your off, warp speed. The car now starts to creep a lot sooner.

There was also a slight delay on "Kick Down", not any more.

When in "D" mode, say doing 50mph foot hard to the floor and the response is almost instant, no lag, she's off. sorry he's off 'cos he's called Bert

There is an update available, but not hesitation related . I'll attempt to get a reference number for the said update

It seems like a different car.

Glad you've managed to get it sorted. The lack of kickdown lag I think is the biggest bonus out of the lot.

Though it does make you wonder why they haven't just fitted (for lack of a better word) this to the cars from the factory.

I wonder if any of the tech's on the forum know if there is a clutch adjustment routine that the software runs. On another forum (non VAG cars) where they have been discussing automated clutch systems someone found a technical note from the manufacturer which gave details of how/when the system would automatically re-calibrate clutch bite points. Some owners found a forced (or manual) recalibration resolved some issues they were having.

Interesting. I need to book mine in for a couple of other jobs so the DSG will be on the list.

I presume the garage will also have reset the gearbox "learning" where it gets used to your driving style?

If you could find more information on the said DSG update, that would be great thanks.

I don't have set off lag, but the kickdown lag is quite noticeable.

Thanks.

Well done for finding this info!

I'm assuming future build vrs' won't suffer with this as the update will be automatically applied?

Can't wait to get mine now! :p

Yes if there is a software update available to the workshops this will be applied to all new cars being built. I expect there was a software issue with the early cars that they've obviously since solved.

Glad you've got it sorted Auric  does it drive like mine now ? :p

Do we know when the software update was released, our Jan 11 car does not seem to suffer from the lag...maybe the dealer already applied the update!

The plot thickens.

Been back to the dealers this afternoon and had a long discussion with the service chappy to see if the Software update had a reference number so others can go to there dealers already armed with the Information needed

It turns out that the software update is not related to the symptoms I described to the service dept but some other small issues with the DSG Box. They were loaded on anyway so the software is up to date.

It turns out that the DSG software on my Vrs has been put back to the Original Factory settings.

So this adds another outlook on the problem.

Are the original factory settings loaded on by the dealer different to the factory settings at the factory.

Trust me the car is a 100% improvement since it been back to the garage, more responsive from a standing start and kick down in "D" mode has improved vastly, it's a different car

Strange...................................

@ sharkrider, Goes just like yours now, if not better

That realy sounds very odd might still see about getting something similar done to mine as the kick down delay has me reaching for the paddle every time. Though out for a drive on sunday so we'll see what it learns on sunday.

I do wonder if the dealer factory reset misses out some sort of software bassed running in program as I have noticed the engine is getting more responsive now though I think the fly by wire control system is learning my comuting which is 100% not how I want the car to drive.

Are we actually sure this update actually exists?

Service Manager - "Mr Goldfinger is bringin in his vRS, reckons there is some sort of DSG issue"

SkodaTech - "Don't worry boss, I'll load on the "software-update", that'll sort him out..... ( nudge nudge ;) )"

:D:rofl:

I understand what your saying but the car drives differently since it's been in to the garage

the throttle is more responsive from a standing start and "Kick Down " has vastly improved

maybe its the newer ones that are suffering (mine is old - oct 2010) or maybe the "lerning" part of the software in your car set it up wrong, and now after a reset to factory, its driving how you want to, because thats how you are driving it! (i.e. not being careful and running in ect)

I'm very glad yours is fixed :)

Mine was updated to the new software but no change in the cars behaviour.

Software updates often fix or alter things that they were not intended to do, sometimes for the better and sometimes not. Remember, it's a computer and software doesn't always load correctly or become calibrated properly by the ecu in the first instance but gets sorted later when someone comes along with that update or revision. It may just be that it's been reset into learning mode with the updates that have been added.

I'm sorry, I just had to x)!

My car has been in 4 times re this issue and each time they have said and I quote "its a feature of the DSG"  To which I say, "being seriously dangerous is a feature???"

I referred the matter to Skoda UK, and they said I should take it back to the dealer.  Thereby starting a cycle.
