Oil Choice

Featured Replies

Stop using big chains of shops for oil if you can. 4 litres is never more than £20 at my local motor factors.

Ive been using the Halfords 5W/30 fully synthetic oil. It meets the standards set by BAG which is the most important factor. that said i have a halfrauds trade card so i get nearly 50% off vehicle maintenance parts

as long as it meets the VW spec, I dont see a problem, I first topped up with selina oil I have been given last time I had the punto (1.9 deisel!) serviced.... it said VW502/504 on the back, so it meets the required standard

edit: still bugs me that it needs topping up, 107k in the fiat and not a drop used  at least I know I'm not alone (thanks to this forum) so its just a characteristic of the engine!

Check out www.opieoils.co.uk, they are in the traders section. They do deals all the time. The base price sometimes looks a little pricey but if you join (which costs nothing) you get money off, plus often its free delivery and often if you buy 5 litres they give and extra litre free and when I bought the oil for the vRS I got an oil bottle case and 'clean up kit' for free.

Used to use em quite a bit for the RX8 as it was fairly heavy on the oil, although to get the best deal you must check out there website as things always changing and deals always doing.

Hope this helps.

I've used the castrol magnetec oil for ages in my previous car(astea sxi).

When I went to halfrauds the weekend I looked at the halfords own brand stuff it was £40+,then I saw the castrol 5-30 for £23.99.

I don't have a manual or anything with my car so how much oil does it hold?if I was doing a oil change how much would I put back in?(I've got a octy vrs )
