Faulty air con compressor warranty?

Featured Replies

Have had the timing belt done on my vrs this week it appears a noise i have when idling is the air con compressor not turning properly (stiff pulley) the air con works but not as well as before i think. question is i have about a fortnight skoda used car warranty left will this be covered? also do i have to take it to the supplying dealer or can i take to a more local one?

cheers

If it is under warranty take it in.. You can take it to any Skoda dealer that is part of the Skoda network.

cheers i will its doing my head in wind noise when moving pulley noise when not

What kind of noise does it make? I'm getting a tapping sound at idle that I cannot determine the source of.

If the pump is seizing up (it doesn't have a clutched pulley so if it's stiff it's the compressor itself) make sure the system is flushed through, a new dryer and expansion valve is fitted along with the compressor to avoid a repeat failure. (it is Skoda policy for this to be done for a seizure fault).

Pilotwoo the noise I hear is sort of squeaking noise you can hear the rotation of the pulley can only hear it at idle I thought it was due to the timing belt needing done but when it was changed the air con pulley was found to be tight

Take it to a dealer that knows about cars is my advice.

Well phone them to notify of the fault under warranty and you wish for it to be booked in and a courtesy car at your convenience.

My wifes old Renault at idle had a bit of a squesk from the aircon which was due to a lack of gas which also has an additive to act as a lubricant. Full aircon service sorted that out, but took the dealer (happend to be a Skoda dealer as the car baught second hand) 3 attempts to sort and a visit from trading standards. That dealer went bust a couple years ago so no worries of them ripping someone else off!

My SABB on the other hand, when the compressor failed, it did ion a spectacular way, fortuantly justa s I was pulling off the drive! After moving 10 feet acrid smoke came up from the bonnet, so killed the power, popped the bonnet a touch and drained the contents of a fire extinguisher inside :o

Car was still drivavable, but had to set the aircon to be in permanent economy so the compressor wouldn't turn, as far as I am aware this is a very rare occurance and the SAAb was 12 yeasr old. As soon as an aircon button was touched the engine would die. Sold the car soon after.

I now make sure the aircon is fully serviced and the compressor checked at least every 12 months.

just thought i would update this if anyone is interested...

took the car to the dealer with a few days remaining on the warranty simply they are not going to sort the issue they say as the compressor is working normally they cannot proccess a claim they were very careful not to agree with me there was an actual noise caused by the pulley seizing up.

it seems unless anything fails the used car warranty is a waste of time
