Interior Light NOT working?

Featured Replies

My interior light will not come on from drivers door but works fine on all others? Is it a easy fix?does anyone have a clue wot it could be?? thanks

Probably a microswitch in the lock assembly.

Does your (head)lights on reminder work? If you unlock the car and then open the the car does it self-lock after 30 seconds (if this feature is enabled?) Does the light at the bottom of the door work when you open the door?

Does the alarm LED flash all the time in the door (or not flash at all?)

There are 3 little microswitches. Often it is a dry joint on one of them which causes this failure. You need to take the lock out and then take it from there - this is not an issue I have experienced yet on mine.... It has been covered on here before... a search should help. I have to pop out to get some tyres changed, but I'll have a look later if you have not come up trumps by then.

can you buy the switch or is it part of the lock???have got tps on the phone trying to find it

It's part of the lock, and not available as a separate part.

There's a DIY on here if you want to solder in a new switch to your existing lock mech.

anyone got a idea how to check if this is the problem or a fix for it??? £100 for new one from tps.!!!!!

The fix is to take the lock out. Check to see if all three microswitches are working, if they are, check for dryjoints and remake them. If you locate a microswitch which has failed then it needs to be replaced.

Google is your friend (at least it is mine): http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/126257-octavia-1-replacing-door-latch-microswitch/

Deffo microswitch. I had all the same symptoms.

I did the job based on the guide from the link in mbames reply.

I used the microswitch from maplin here: http://www.maplin.co.uk/miniature-microswitch-34835?ordercode=N95AQ

I bought a second hand lock module from flebay, for about £20 so I could change/modify it at my leasure.

I had to drill the holes out a bit in the microswitch to enable mounting, I think I used a 3.5mm drill.

Also, I had to drill the metal of the lock assembly as the holes aren't quite in the right place. Maybe different microswitches will be a better match.

The actual lock assemby change is a little bit fiddly, but not too hard... It's a common fault on the whole VAG range.

How odd the same stuff just happend to my car last weekend :giggle:

Was thinking it was something like this and now i know :p

Will be getting a mirco switch tommorow and fixing it at the weekend.

And i just replaced the coilpack loom last week lol :dull: hope this will be my last thing to fix for a bit

Mine's had this problem intermittantly for years, and I just ignore it.

Blasting it with WD40 seems to wake it up, and it also works fine when it's been raining!

I always have more important things to fix/fiddle with so it's been at the bottom of my list for ages!

well guys i myself have this problem, only my interior light works when the door is opened a few "mm" same with the little door lights, but once it's opened any further it doesn't work, then when your driving the door starts locking or well clicking like it is!

Either microswitch, or broken loom coming into the door. Open the door and wiggle the loom between the door and the A post and see what happens....

Hi guys

I want to ask you about that problem. I own an octavia mk II and I face the problem of the interior lightning. In my case the difference with the post is that it is not working from all the doors. The lights reminder is working, the 30 sec auto lock works and the light on the door too. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

well.... the mark ii section might give a better response, but id say check the fuses and the bulb connections first?

You have checked the bulb and fuse? And you are probably best asking in the octavia ii forum buddy.
