Well it's here!...SUMMER DIESEL at last....

Featured Replies

Anyone noticed this on their car? I'm suddenly getting 4.5 to 6mpg more per gallon of precious diesel, and it's been like that for a couple of weeks now. Woopeeee! But it isn't just the fuel. In these warmer days the tyre pressures go up a bit without any help, the fuel injection auto advance goes off very early after cold start, and the oil starts off just a bit thinner too. With less use of the electrics to clear the windows and mirrors and heat the car it's a win win situation. Plus...the birds sing louder too!

I've noticed this over the last few days, when I was on a drive I was still returning about 52MPG after a hard drive, my town MPG is currenty about 46-47MPG at present but I am also running a K&N air filter as well.

Definate inprovement im running the K&N panel filter, redex every other fill and now removed the spare +tools, just have the liquid tyre stuff in the boot with pump, ive done 350 miles now on this fill and about 3 little black squares on the dash fule thingy.

According to my trip computer when I filled the car up on Friday it said I have 525miles range in the tank.

I've covered about 245miles in the last few days including my hard drive and town driving and it says I have 355 miles in the tank!!! Meaning I'm on course for a 600 mile tank at this rate.

I'm using millers diesel ecomax on every tank as well so along with the filter and this I've noticed a improvement.

I'm going to go to Scarborough next week so will report back on my MPG on that trip.

Ive noticed my petrol is going much farther of late too, getting low to mid 50s easily on my commute now

Is the millers ecomax better than the redex

the warmth must help ive done over 400miles now an ive still half a tank of diesel left sounds about right smash my mpg record just as i go back to a petrol :wonder:

snap, i just hope its all worth it

I've used the millers in all my diesel cars since I picked up my Fabia vRS and have had no problems with it, no used Redex before so I can't comment.

That's great, that means I should get 78MPG in my 1.6TDI CR without really trying. They are extremely efficient the VAG 1.6 engines!!

Yes I believe its true, got 62mpg out of my 2.0 CR 140 Golf the other day, is unheard of!

Oooooh,,,,the sarcasm!!!

I got 64.6mpg on a 10 mile run on Monday and have noticed a general increase in mpg in my every day driving. I was was considering a panel filter but on doing quite a long search through various car forums came to the conclusion that there was a disagreement whether K&N panel filters actually increased mpg so I gave up on the idea.

My car will be going in for its first MOT next month and on the whole it has been very reliable, my only two complaints would be lack of engine temperature gauge and more seriously the suspension is far to soft. On some of the back country roads around here its like being on a mini big dipper.

Returned 70.3 MPG at the end of a 30 mile drive yesterday in my Fabia 1.6CR Estate.

I just dont buy the winter diesel theory.

Its the outside temperature that makes the big difference imho.

Same tank of fuel beginning of the week at outside temp 3 degrees gave nearly 10 mpg less than today at 20 degrees using the same fuel. Identical run, same average speed and no traffic.

My TDI diesel just likes warm weather for an efficient burn. Warm air is easier to push through. Oil is warmer sooner.

If you check the fuel specs then winter diesel is near as makes no difference the same calorific value.

(edited temp.....it was around 3 & 20 degrees)

Nope!...it's the birds singing louder that makes the main difference! And I even read that in the newspapers, so it must be true...so there!

Fully agree with you as per my original post above. But you would still be down on mpg's if for example you were still dragging around a tank of winter diesel. It's surprising just how much a small drop in BTU/calories will make, and the actual combustion is slightly affected too.

Well not summer diesel but managed 61.9mpg today it's about 17* here so presumably this helps 60mph

I'm seeing a big improvement in economy (not a fabia but the principles are the same) since the clocks changed.

It's a combination of traffic flowing better when people can see clearly so less unnecessary braking, the engine getting up to temperature in a shorter period as there's less cooling from the air and heater, less electrical load on the car as the lights are off (until it's aircon season) and also the roads are generally quieter too.

I don't think the quality of the fuel makes anywhere near as much difference as these other factors.

What is the tank size on the fabia?

less electrical load on the car as the lights are off

The EU are doing their best to see to that ;)

What is the tank size on the fabia?

I think it 45litres /10 gallons not sure though not even sure if my maths are correct lol!

Well it looks as if my half tank of derv looks as if am going to get 240 miles at least

Im getting up to 520 miles on a tank of diesel now with my Fabia CR 105. Car`s now done 6000 odd miles.

Wife's 1.9 doing 500+ a tank easily now, once seen 600 but it was on fumes.

Passat is currently doing 700+ a tank but tank obviously bigger. Could probably push 800 if I drove for economy and run down to fumes but lifes to short to do 800 miles without the odd blast. . Bluemotion is supposed to do 1000 miles per tank but wanted dsg and a bit more power.

Cheers
