Rear Brake Discs

Featured Replies

Looking at getting 256's eventually but my discs have got a lip on them and are making a weird noise. So what's the best discs to get. Or is it just worth getting standards?

If your getting 256's eventually just get cheap ones for now?

Matt

I've tried all sorts of after market discs in the past, EBC, Mintex and EBC. OE always seems to be as good as you get.

I run EBC discs with their Greenstuff pads all around! Their new version of the grooved and dimpled discs (which I use) have fewer grooves and dimples (still plenty to do their jobs) but more plain areas and alot better!! If on budget just get good quality OEM discs and EBC Greenstuff pads!! B)

The rear brakes don't do much, especially with a heavy engine up front, so it's probably better to stick with standard sized discs. If you have up-rated pads on the front you could put the same sort of pads on the rear. However, never put better brakes on the rear than the front.

A lot of people on here hate EBC stuff, especially greens, but I have Greenstuff all round with no problems.

Can't say anything about greenstuff but I had EBC redstuff pads and EBC turbo disks all round on my last car and its braking was epic, and they didn't seem to fade ever.

The upgrade is normally done for looks more than anything

I've just taken delivery of some rear 256mm brakes. CRN seems like a popular company to use for grooved discs.

Planning on going with CRN rear discs with pagid pads and will (finally) change my terrible mintex 312 discs & pads for a set of CRN discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads when I fit the rears :)

There is no need for larger brakes at the rear on our VRS's unless it's purely for cosmetic/looks. If you do fit them then the rear brake compensator should be re-calibrated else you'll be locking up the rears before the fronts, not good when you are braking on corners which you shouldn't but SWMbO's do. I can see a few 360's happening with this mod if not done correctly.

As for DS pads they are only for the track and don't start to grip at their best until nice and hot, when cold they feel rather wooden. Stick with the Pagid OE pads all round, I rate them on my VRS even for track.
