Dreaded clutch problem

Featured Replies

The other day I changed from 1st to 2nd gear and snap the clutch pedal dropped to the floor now I have read about the black plastic back box on the pedal (which as broke off) but the white clip is still intact on the end of the master cylinder pushrod I have taken off the clutch pedal and examined for weld breaks but its fine but the push rod is stuck out and i cannot psyically push it in is this right or is there any way of freeing it or has it seized

cheers

Can you unod the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder and then push it in. Saves you trying to push the clutch spring in as the fluid will bypass it.

hi pal where would that be?

Where the gear linkages are on top of the gearbox, there will be a metal hydraulic pipe coming from the clutch pedal. Where it meets the gearbox, there will be a bleed nipple with a rubber cap on it.

Open this, then as you press the rod back in, fluid will come out of it.

Normally, when you push the clutch, the master cylinder will push fluid down the pipe and push the slave cylinder in, openign the clutch. When you open the bleed nipple and push the plastic bit in, the fluid will bypass the slave cylinder and come out of it.

After you have done it, you will have to pull the clutch pedal up once by hand and check the brake fluid level.

right i have opened the bleed valve and the pushrod on the master cylinder goes in and out fine by hand and the fluid squirts out of the valve but when i tighten the bleed valve back up the pushrod on the master cylinder will not budge

You need to push it in far enough to fasten the clutch pedal back on (valve open), then you need to close the valve and pump the pedal to bleed the air from the system. The brake fluid cap will need to be off for this, and you will probably need some more fluid too.

Have a look on google, or any haynes manual for how to bleed a clutch. It's pretty easy.
